Week 13 Pre Calc

This week in pre-calc 11 we learned about Solving absolute value equations.

In the equation 3 =| 2x -5 | we need to do the equation two times but slightly differently each time.

First we do the equation so it looks like it does without the absolute value.

3= 2x-5

Now we isolate for x

Add5 to each side,

-2=2x

\frac{-2}{2} = \frac{2x}{2}

-1=x

So that is one of the solutions.

Now we solve for if 2x-5 was negative

3= -(2x-5)

3= -2x+5

Now we subtract three from each side and move  -2x to the other side of the equation making it a positive 2x

2x=-8

Now we isolate again

\frac{2x}{2} = \frac{-8}{2}

x=-4
