Orders from General Eisenhower.
Landing airplanes,
On makeshift runways.
Battles all around us.
Dachau, Buchenwald, Bergen-Belsen.
That last one twice.
Lifeless bodies overflowing trains,
Frozen, starved to death.
The stench burns my nostrils
Prisoners freed, captors beaten,
Chaos all around.
Soldiers try to calm the rage.
Burned my uniform to rid the stench.
Some believe it never happened,
But I will remember
