iceland rift

The imaged shown is the underwater rift in Iceland. It is well known for the crystal clear water and the 2 ocean plates surrounding the scuba divers. This is a cause of rift eruption. The magma erupts through the long crack in the lithosphere and the lava erupts which separates the ridges in the continental crust. The rift eruptions are not very explosive or violent, but it releases large amounts of lava. It causes the rifts to separate apart a little every year. It moves away approximately 2cm annually.
