Inquiry #1 Harrison Bergeron

Why is sharing beauty with the world important?

In the story Harrison Bergeron, beauty is controlled with the handicaps that the government forces upon the talented citizens. Even though expressing beauty is in the human nature, the government is restricting the performers expression. The fact that beauty is in human nature is evident in the story when Harrison rips off his and the ballerinas handicaps off. Harrison was craving the beauty and freedom of expression he lacked for a long time. Sharing beauty and expressing ones feelings can lead to those without beauty to find beauty in their own lives. Beauty is everywhere we go, and everything we enjoy has its own beauty within it. Sharing beauty can help those around you to find their purpose and express their beauty to others. One small action can lead to a whole nation changing the perspective of the world. the quote “The ballerina must have been extraordinarily beautiful, because the mask she wore was hideous. And it was easy to see that she was the strongest […] for her handicap bags were as big as those worn by two-hundred-pound men.” (40) shows that the ballerinas true beauty was not able to be shown because of the control of the government. Sharing beauty with the world is important because without it, we will not have a purpose to live on.
