Rational Number

Addition/Subtraction Rational Numbers

If you have two factions with different denominator you have to find a common denominator so you can add them more easily.

Then you just have to do addiction or subtraction and if you can reduce it.

Multiplication/Division Rational Numbers

When you do division you have to take the second fraction and find the flip the fraction and then do your multiplication.

For multiplication you can do it straight forward or do cross multiplication to take on less step.

Experiment Inquiry Project

Experimental Inquiry Project

Does Coke or Club Soda affect the growth of a plant?

Some of the multiple answers could be The plant could die, The sugar could act like salt and prevent the plant from absorbing water, The plant might not die but it could grow, The plant could become dehydrated

The sugar content of Coke, which changes the concentration of the soil and can make it hard for the plants to absorb water. Also, the plants can’t absorb sugar since plants create their own sugars through photosynthesis.  Carbonated water contains macronutrients that are essential for healthy plant growth. The inner layer of tissue in the branching roots that anchor the plant is sensitive to salt and activates a stress hormone, which stops root growth. Coke has a dropping 3.38 grams of sugar per ounce, which could kill the plant as it would certainly be unable to absorb water and nutrients.

We are trying to investigate if plants will grow using soda which is sugary instead of water. Some environmental issues are that people pour drinks into plants. For our experiment we will need to get six small plants, one bottle of Coke, one bottle of Club Soda and we will need a phone to take pictures in between our experiment. One of the safety concerns is mold because it could form due to the sugary content and mold is very bad for people.

We think that First Peoples perspectives are that we should nurture our children so they can feel safe growing and at home. So, consider that perspective of First People, we were kind of nurturing the plants and trying to take care of them so they can grow.

Our graph is on a blank piece of paper

The graph represents the changes in growth during our experiment. The indents on the graph represent the plant losing growth like drying, losing leaves or dying. Also, the graph shows that the water plant had no changes to the Club Soda plant having little to no changes. The relationships between the plants are how the water plant has no changes in contrast to the Coke plant that has multiple changes happening rapidly with no stop. Finally, the Club Soda has minimal changes. The Coke plant died because of all the sugar it has in it and because of the heat. Also, the Club Soda plant was partially dead and partially alive.

Yes, our findings support our hypothesis, because we said that the Coke plant would have a lower chance of living since the roots can’t absorb sugar. Plants create their own sugar through photosynthesis. Club Soda is carbonated water, and it has no sugar so the plant would absorb some liquid. The plain water plants were the most successful out of the six different plants.

The sources of error or uncertainty for us were that we watered the plants every second day instead of watering them every single day.  Another source of error for us were that we left our plants in the direct sunlight over the weekend instead of moving them somewhere cooler where the plants could have some shade.

Some ways we could have improved our experiment was to be more prepared, and pick a better location for our plants, so they were not in the scorching hot sun. We also did not know how much water / coke to put in each plant, so we were not consistent with the amount we put in every second day. So we should have measured the amount of liquid we put in each time. Secondly, we should have watered the plants every day, although we were unable to do that over the hot weekend.  Lastly we should have gotten some plant holders, so they would hold all the soil and water in.

In conclusion, we knew that the Coke plant was going to die, but we did not expect it to happen so rapidly. At first our experiment was going well, but during the second week we had unusually high temperatures (33 degrees) and our plants were directly in the sunlight. Due to this excess heat our plants did not survive and they dried out over the weekend. When we came back to school we tried watering them twice as much but unfortunately the damage had been done, and it was irreversible.

Principles of Learning

What is interconnectedness? Interconnectedness is how things are connected to each other. They might be connected in many ways, whether it’s spiritually, emotionally, or physically. I think that even thought we are from different cultures, communities, and diversity. We are all interconnected together like the stars even thought we can’t see it but, we can all be connected to each other.

What we learned in this unit relates to interconnectedness, like how there are different areas of the foods chain, from the primary producers to tertiary consumers. They rely on each other to survive and if you remove one part of the food chain, there might be other parts that disappear with it. The water cycle is how we need the water to survive, and all other living organisms.

What is sustainability? Sustainability is to avoid the depletion of natural resources and maintaining ecological balance. If you can’t keep the environment clean, bad things would happen like global warming. The first nation makes sure they take care of their resources and tries their best to keep an ecological balance. If we don’t take care of our planet, there might not be enough energy for the future generations. By losing trees would impact how much fresh air we get, trees produce a lot of our oxygen and if we lose it we can only depend on the plants in the ocean, which are already affected by the polluted water. To reduce pollution and the waste of energy we can do a lot of things. We can use natural things to create energy, we can try using less energy, and try using less things that are harmful to the
environment.

SMART Goals Reflections

Smart Goals Reflection

What was your goal?

My goal was taking the bus/carpool for a week. I’m trying to accomplish by not getting a ride from my parents in the morning or after school. I will carpool to school and take the bus home.

Did you achieve it? How or how not?

Yes, I achieved my goal. I asked my friend how is in collage and she goes to work early in the morning. So, I asked her to drive me to school because she passes by the school on her way to work. I also, carpooled with my friends from band and choir in the morning since we have to get to school at the same time. I usually take the bus home anyways and I take the bus to swim practice and taekwondo twice a week.

What was the most challenging part of achieving your goal?

The most challenging part was when my friend had to go to work earlier or later and I would have to adapt to her schedule. Also, the days when we didn’t have band or choir in the morning, I would have to figure out plans for my friends o get me in the morning.

What would you do differently next time?

I would plan my rides more in advance and ask what time people usually go to school or work. Also, I would plan my mornings better, so I don’t make people wait for me or be in a ruse first thing in the morning. But, I will still take the bus after school still to activities or home.

Will you continue on with this type of goal? If you do, explain what you will do. If not, explain why you are satisfied with where you are at.

I will probably not ask for people to carpool in the morning to school because their schedule changes quit frequently and its hard to plan sometimes. But, I will still continue taking the bus to activities or home. Also, I will carpool with friends to sports tournaments and practices.

Letter to Trump about Paris Accord

Letter to Trump

Dear President,

I’m writing this letter to you tell you, why I’m respectfully disagreeing with your decision on withdrawing  the United States from the Paris Accord.

I have some reasons why I disagree with your decision. Firstly, here is a statement from an article saying “Senior adviser Jared Kushner generally thinks the deal is bad but would like to find a way to see if U.S. emissions targets can be changed.” I think that even though you do not what to be in the Paris Accord, you should think of ways to change the amount of emission. Even, though you don’t believe our world is changing because of climate change, there are records and statistics that say if we continue like we have been, there will be a lot of big impact changes for the next generation.

Secondly, another statement saying “Trump’s influential daughter Ivanka Trump’s preference is to stay, but she made it a priority to establish a review process so her father heard from all sides, said one of the officials.” I think that the President should consider all the sides of this accord and think about what is better for the United States and the people how live there. Also, when the climate change gets really bad, you won’t be there to experience it and that generation will have to suffer the consequences of climate change.

Finally, here is the final statement saying “Scientists suggest the U.S. dropping out could result in emissions of up to three billion tons of additional carbon dioxide a year — enough to melt ice sheets faster, raise seas higher and trigger more extreme weather.” I think that even thought you do not join the Paris Accord that you should consider having some changes in the amount of emission you use because if more ice melts soon some parts of the world will be underwater and we will have less space for the millions of peoples how lose their homes due to climate change and I believe that we can change the amount of emission of carbon dioxide little by little.

Sincerely, Jocelyn Ng

McArthur2017DataAnalysisThoughts

1. What role do statistics have in our society?

Weather: These computer models are built statistics that compare prior weather conditions with current weather to predict future weather.

Emergency Preparedness: Emergency management agencies move into high gear to be ready to rescue people. Emergency teams rely on statistics to tell them when danger may occur.

2. I think statistics are very important in weather and emergency preparedness

3. They might not be 100% correct

11.1 Factors Influencing Data Collection

When I first read the article, I thought they are doing it for convenience because the first ten grade 12 students who enter the school were asked with shirt they would buy.

After I learning about influencing factors, I think that they are just asking the first ten people who enter the school are representing grade 7 to 12 and saying that 78% of students at Central Hight would pick Shirt B.

In the future, when reading and interpreting survey data I will look at influencing factors and read it twice before I take it face first.

11.4 Misleading Statistics

Walt Disney Studio Sponsored Article on Instagram

I think this post is reliable and validity because it is playing in theatres now because their was a bunch of trailers playing a couple weeks ago before it had came out. Also, in the trailers said it was the final movie/adventure in Pirates of the Caribbean. Its and articles some I does not have anything to do with population & sample size. A misleading factor might be that if you have never watched Pirates of the Caribbean you might not know it was the last movie/adventure.

11.3 Probability in Society

Website: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/survey/695/result

The Best Anime of 2016 MEGA POLL.

The population of the sample was 19560 and their were 193 options to choses from out off the 193 options the highest voted was Yuri!!! On Ice with 7400 or 38% and the lowest voted was Nazotokine with 0 or 0%.

I think this survey  has some influencing factors like you could be persuade by your friends how are also doing the survey, you could pick your favorite, and you would probably not vote for an anime you have not watched. I think that there is good plot, great characters, beautiful music, and a bit of Yaoi in Yuri!!! On Ice so some people enjoy. Also, I think this is a pretty good representation of the population

Here is a comment I found from someone how has watched the show:

Post date: Dec 23, 2016

“Yuri!!! on Ice is a sports anime. That’s what it’s listed as, that’s what it was first promoted as, and it’s how I would believe the series creators wish it to be seen. But Yuri!!! on Ice is so much more than just a sports anime. If you’ve been anywhere around the anime crowd online (or even out of it, sometimes) in the past twelve weeks, then you’ve probably heard about the “gay figure skating anime” of the season.
The biggest question I’ve seen around is, “what’s so good about it?” It’s just gay. It’s just pandering to fans. It’s just this, just that. So it’s a lot of things.” – Sentimentalseals
