I’ve really enjoyed the “Iron Chef” activity. It was my first time cooking within such short amount of time given. Before I started this activity, I was so excited. I did not know the ingredients and we had to cook food in a hassle. By doing some research in the internet, my group have decided a menu. I was very satisfied with our food. I thought we were out of time but managed to bake a decent pie. We were all proud and pleased with our result. Without my group members’ effort and teamwork, we could not have accomplished what we did. Communication was very crucial during the fast paced kitchen environment, but we’ve managed it. It was challenging and stressful to some extent, but the result left us with pride and a delicious pie. I would definitely do this kind of activity again. It would take us to a whole new level of cooking and it would also offer us love and attraction toward culinary arts.

I chose “Sunflower Crepes” to reflect on this lab. It was most memorable because it tasted really good. The ingredients were very simple, but it was awesome. If I can cook in my homestay house, I would make it again and let my homestay mom and the kids taste it. I believe it will be a hit! After I finished cooking, I was tired, but while I was cooking it, I enjoyed very much. I do not get the chance to cook very often in my daily life so something like this was a very exciting experience. It was my first time making crepes so I was enthusiastic. When the crepes turned out, it was better than I expected. I think the ingredients were really good and the recipe was easy. In addition to this, I personally really like bacon and cheese. I remember having crepes for the very first time when I came to Vancouver. This recipe reminded me of my memorable moment during the first few months here in Vancouver. My group worked well together. However, there were a couple of problems. One of my group members and I did almost everything so we were little bit tired. I hope next time, we can come up with a better solution of how to work as a group and help each other any way we can. For me, I enjoy working as a group while communicating and socializing together. Also, my English skill is not the best so I sometimes had to ask the meanings of the recipe. I could easily find the definitions of any vocabulary I am not aware of but this consumes too much time, which I would not benefit from. If I was to do this lab all over again, I would read the recipe more carefully ahead of time and therefore finish the lab more efficiently.
Foods 12 waste plan
Food waste is food that is discarded or lost uneaten. Whenever I eat my meal, if I am full or not satisfied with the taste of the food I throw away the food. I throw away a big amount of food at school these days. When I don’t want to eat the food that my home stay guardian packed for me, I will eat only a little portion of the food and throw it away in the garbage bin. Then I will buy a new meal from the school cafeteria. I know I shouldn’t waste food. In some countries, individuals are struggling just to survive throughout the day due to the inadequate absorption of nutrients. In some places such as a restaurant, school, and home, I can cut down the amount of food waste. Actions and solutions to reduce the amount of food waste around my surroundings are the following. My first solution is to create a no food waste day. During this day the students will buy or bring the amount of food that they are going to eat for sure. This way, there will be no food waste left behind. Second solution will be creating a rule at restaurants which the customers have to pay a penalty fee for the leftovers. Through this method, the customers will order the right amount of food, and try their best to leave no leftovers since they wouldn’t want to pay the penalty fee for it. The third solution is to not over-serve food when cooking a meal at home and monitor what you throw away. The third solution can be accomplished by designating a week in which you write down everything you throw out on a regular basis. By this method you will be able to reduce the amount of food waste from your house. We are wasting a mount of food. However, we know the solutions and we can implement that. Therefore, we should do our best to do not waste food.
