Digital Footprint

How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

Digital footprints can affect your future oppurtunities in a bad way especially when technology had advanced so much. One example is that it can ruin your future job opportunities. When you are older, before you get any sort of job, you go on a interview. In your past years, if you post any sort of unappropriate post it could lessen the percentage on passing the interview. It could affect you, who simply want a job. No one wants an employer who posted negative things on their social media. I understand that people change overtime, you can say you quit drinking, partying or any sort of bad stuff but one look at your old post could change the way they think about you. They might think you’re just saying that so you could get a job and not trust you. That takes me to my second example, trust. Trust is a delicate thing, one bad move and your relationship and trust with that person can end. I don’t think any parent would like to see and hear their kid lying to them saying their just going to a friends house while in reality you are going drinking and going to a unappropriate place to party. You may think your parents may never find out and share a post of you partying, but that’s the scary part of technology. You can literally do anything with it, and when your parents find out about it, how would they feel? Their own flesh and blood lying to them so you can go out to party and ruin your future. No parent would want your own child living in the streets because of a post they shared in their teen years.

Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

First, one simple strategy to keep our digital footprint safe is to keep any social media account on private. It is something simple but it could be a change in a world with advanced technology. Second, think before you post anything on social media. I don’t think you would want to post any unappropriate photos or videos that could affect your future. Lastly I would like to encourage everyone to follow these steps my mom and I came to conclusion before I share anything on social media.

  1. Pause and stop your fingers before your press the share or post button
  2. Think about it. Would this post affect my future in a negative way? Think about all the possiblilties that could affect your life by one single post.
  3. If your post is appropriate and you agree with yourself that the post is appropriate, then go ahead and press that button. BUT, If you’re hesitating and second guessing your thoughts, just trust your judgement, but it would most likely to be best if you don’t share that post because if you’re hesitating then your heart is telling you to not share the post.

I would like to invite everyone including kids, teens and even adults to follow these steps before you share anything on social media and one day you might want to thank me 🙂

What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?

I have repeatedly said this many times but, we live in a time with advanced technology, if your not careful all your private information could get exposed. As technology evolve we need to be more aware before we post any type of information because it could affect us in the future in a negative way. I would like to tell and warn the other students that one simple mistake could ruin your future career and your future in general. Always be mindful before you post and stop and think before you act.
