How sustainable is BC’s Forestry Industry?

Based on the amount of the amount forest that we had before coming to Canda we had more than 100 times more trees that are old, tall, and short trees. The Forest Industry had been successful because of the demand for wood products such as lumber, pulp and etc around the world. BC has good weather and fertile soil because of these trees grow healthy. The trees are being cut down faster than they grow since the demand for wood is still high the number of trees that we had left might be all gone within 80 years without including forest fires and floods. The Forest Products Association of Canada CEO Derek Nighbor said that “Canada’s working forests are a model for the world, consider the careful planning that envisions horizons beyond 100 years, and our commitment to multiple values including watershed health, wetlands preservation, supporting multiple species of birds, mammals and fish, and mitigating fire risks.” because of this plan they can reduce the greenhouse gas emission by ⅔ in 30 years. Growing trees takes a long time making it hard to maintain the production of wood unstable. Reforestation requires the production of seedlings in specialized nurseries. From BC Forestry Innovation says that “approximately 95% of B.C.’s forests are publicly owned allowing the Province to help determine where, when and how forest resources can be used for the best long-term benefit of its citizens.” so depending on the government management of the forest the Forrest industry can will continue for a long time. The Forest Industry depends on the forest and trees meaning the decisions of government can impact our environment and the Forrest industry’s sustainability.
