This week, I learned how to factor “ugly” trinomials. It was a bit shaky for me at first but I got the hang of it, but I don’t know about the trinomials with a negative term though.

Ex)

This is an ugly trinomial.

First, I multiply the first (8) and last (-3) term together to get a really important number (-24). The two numbers (-4,6) that are equal to that number (-24) has to be the middle term (2). Once I got both numbers, I drew a box, this box is really helpful and simple. Top left should be the first term and bottom right should be the last term. For the empty boxes the two numbers should be there and it doesn’t matter which order it goes into. Lastly, I wrote the greatest common factor for each row (up and down), also if there are nothing in common you put a 1 just like how I did.

Last step is putting them in order and you should get this^^
