This HOMEWORK is estimated to take you TWO weeks of home time (8 hours).   Each segment or part of this Project has its own due date.  Please pay close attention to these dates.

Fashion Design 12 – “Design a Collection” Project

PART 1. Target a Customer                        /10              due    Wed. Feb 24

Target a specific “buyer” for your collection?  Describe the target customer – their persona, their wardrobe needs and how your customer wears their garments. Describe the style of clothing that they would want and tell why they would pick THOSE itemS? (ie conservative or chic, or heavy grunge?) Tell me about their psychographic profile in a paragraph. Be as specific as possible) “

PART 2.   Accessing TREND REPORTS               /10       due Wed. Feb. 24

Trend reports influence a designer’s collection concept. Trend forecasting and fashion shows provide great insight into what is styling and well-loved in the fashion world.  for this section you are to research fashion trends and Present MINIMUM two or MAXIMUM three trends that you want to use in your collection designs.  Provide a photo of and describe each trend.

PART 3. Create a Mood /collage page            /15             due Friday, Feb. 26

What is the main inspiration that influences the designs in your collection?  Create a Mood /collage page of photos, fabrics, and objects that identify your collection’s inspiration and show what your collection uses.  Your display should show a) colours, b)textures, c)patterns, d)shapes,  e) objects and e) mood  but NOT the clothing items. Your mood board can be digitally produced or a reallife board assemblage of objects.  It should be a:

– complex collection that

-reflects a clear, cohesive theme,

-and unified colour scheme

-that evokes a strong obvious mood

has an organized arrangement on one page/board

-give it a TITLE that reiterates the mood

 

PART 4 – COLLECT AND PRESENT FABRIC SAMPLES                                 /10     Due Monday, March 1

USING FABRIC SAMPLES FROM THE CLASSROOM COLLECTION OF FABRICS CUT SAMPLES THAT ARE AROUND 2 INCHES WIDE.

PRESENT THE FABRICS THAT YOU WILL USE IN AN ORGANIZED ARRANGEMENT (MAKE THE ARRANGEMENT ATTRACTIVE).

LABEL WHAT CLOTHING ITEMS EACH OF THE FABRICS WILL BE USED FOR  (YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO USE FABRICS FOR MORE THAN ONE CLOTHING ITEM).

part 5. – Design the collection by illustrating it with FOUR corquis              /50         Due Friday, March 5

Criteria for evaluating these four croquis:

*The clothing objects that are part of your collection need to all suit your imaginary customer.

*Be sure your designs use the two or three current trends that you targetted.

*All clothing objects need to use the same inspiration or concept that your mood board represents.

*Your collection should completely dress 4 figures. Keep the elements of the collection unified (ie. repeat similar style items and fabrics; Mix and match the fabrics and colours).

*Draw FOUR croquis, each modelling an outfit that is part of the COLLECTION you have designed.  Use your choice of materials to draw your collection:  watercolour paints,  coloured markers, and/or pencil crayons.  Use a medium that you are comfortably artful with.

*Treat each croquis as an artwork. The croquis are a selling tool for your designs so they need to be polished with a background treatment.

5.      PRESENTATION -either live in class or video recorded and submitted:       /5       Due Monday, March 8

Needs to be:

  1. Clear sound,   2. Confident,  3. Visually clear,   4. Punctual,  and  5. Minimum 3 minutes, maximum 5 minutes long
