UNIT #2 – Lesson #1, part A- Children’s Book Illustration

This lesson is to be completed by Monday, May 11.

In this new unit of study the intentions/objectives are that you will:

  1. Increase strategies for image and character design development
  2. Consider approaches for cohesively unifying a collection of art pages
  3. Explore and refine your artistic skills with an art medium that you have access to
  4. Experience the role of an artist as children’s book illustrator
  5. Reflect on the influences of a child audience as context for artistic works
  6. Resolve creative challenges that arise from a storybook structure
  7. Create artistic work to reflect story

Lesson #1   – Artists often turn to illustrating children’s books as a way of getting exposure to their art methods and style.  Children’s books bring a big audience and good income.

Let’s begin by highlighting our attention to some particularly noteworthy children’s book designs.  You are all experts at appreciating children’s book designs in that you all grew up with having read several of children’s books.  I’d like you to:

  1. recall your most favorite children’s book design and
  2. show examples of its design art for fellow Art 11/12 students to see.  If you do not have the book at your place to photo pages of then  please image search the book on the internet so that you can share the images on the common chart .                                                                                       Please share details of your selected children’s book by filling in the chart embedded in this blog.  It should be writable.
