Oculus is a Company Founded by Palmer Luckey in 2012. Upon the creation of the company Palmer didn’t have much of a commercial selling point, in fact he had none. Despite that, Palmer used his own money for the companies funding. Eventually in 2016, Palmer had a stable company with research funds via donations that had made al
most $2.5 million! Because of his desire to, “live the unbelievable” (Oculus 2018), he managed to pique the interest of many game developers along with two of his friends who knew the business side of things better than he did. After all of Palmers Contributions to the VR community he ended up selling his company to Facebook for $2 Billion! He still works alongside Facebook as a part of the Oculus design and software team. Since the release of the oculus quest 2, Facebook has made about $617 million USD total. Zuckerberg and Luckey have very similar ideals when it comes to the future of Oculus and VR in general. When Palmer first dived into the world of VR, he thought to himself, “Why shouldn’t people be able to teleport wherever they want” (Luckey 2012).
Meanwhile when Zuckerberg was interested in it he stated,“No matter who you are, with a growing library of games and experiences there is no limit to where you can go and what you can do in virtual reality” (Zuckerberg 2016). Oculus has made a really great future for video games and a lot of people are still eager to try it. Oculus is creating the future for everything people can even set up work conferences in VR using Oculus Horizons. It’s crazy how cool VR is and it will only get better from this point forward. VR is the future.
