In Time and SPACE.

In Time and SPACE.

My journey through our SSEP started off very fast. I remember walking into Mr. Robinson’s Science Class and  we went around and stated facts about our self’s. Once we did that, we went right into watching a video of the rocket ship getting ready to take off. At first when Mr. Robinson told us that we would be participating in this crazy experience of a life time. When my group sat down the first time to discuss what we are planning on sending into space we thought about worms, chemical explosions and then we thought about doing just a simple yet interesting experiment. We decided on finding the separation time of oil and vinegar on earth and in microgravity.

Breaking it Down.

When Robinson said find one expire ment to fit into a smaller tube it caused everyone’s heads to turn their wheels a little faster. It was difficult at first to find a project that had winning potential but was still safe and easy for a high school grade nine class to do; but we did it.

If the idea of sending possibly our own experiment into space wasn’t crazy enough, brainstorming what to send was insane! In my group we had ideas from worms to oil and baking soda and much more. We had an idea from each category, bacteria, bio, crystals, we thought it would be a change to have something more simple as everyone had always gone above and beyond.

We did run into minor bumps along the way, when  someone would forget to bring  the materials needed or a group member was not there one day. Minor yet very frustrating when things have to be handed-in in a timeline like process. I believe my group could have been more involved, although from the beginning we were never striving to win, we could have tried more experiments I think.

Thanks for expirence my expirence through Time and SPACE.

RiseUp- Analysis.

Here is my analysis on my song of choice…

Rise Up- Andra Day

You’re broken down and tired
Of living life on a merry go round
And you can’t find the fighter
But I see it in you so we gonna walk it out
And move mountains
We gonna walk it out
And move mountains

And I’ll rise up
I’ll rise like the day
I’ll rise up
I’ll rise unafraid
I’ll rise up
And I’ll do it a thousand times again
And I’ll rise up
High like the waves
I’ll rise up
In spite of the ache
I’ll rise up
And I’ll do it a thousands times again
For you
For you
For you
For you

When the silence isn’t quiet
And it feels like it’s getting hard to breathe
And I know you feel like dying
But I promise we’ll take the world to its feet
And move mountains
We’ll take it to its feet
And move mountains

And I’ll rise up
I’ll rise like the day
I’ll rise up
I’ll rise unafraid
I’ll rise up
And I’ll do it a thousand times again
For you
For you
For you
For you

All we need, all we need is hope
And for that we have each other
And for that we have each other
We will rise
We will rise
We’ll rise, oh oh
We’ll rise

I’ll rise up
Rise like the day
I’ll rise up
In spite of the ache
I will rise a thousands times again
And we’ll rise up
Rise like the waves
We’ll rise up
In spite of the ache
We’ll rise up
And we’ll do it a thousands times again
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you

Four Square Analysis

Imagery and Figurative Language:

The first time I listened to this song I was at my good friends dance recital and by the end of the dance I was in tears. Since then I always see light pink with a mountain range in the background and think of being powerful and moveing them when they get in my way. I believe that’s what she is saying and that’s my take on it.

Tone/ Attitude:

Listening to this song brings certain emotion that is indescribable, we all come into great sadness at least once in our lives and this song helped me get through some of mine. It helped me push though mountains out of my way from stopping me to get to happier places.

Style:

Andra Day uses repetition in this song so I could easily learn it. Using repetition also makes the song catchy and easier to read and possibly easier to understand.

Interpretation:

The message Andra is trying to get across is that no matter what the obstacle is in your life at that time, you WILL come into conflict with it again. Keep pushing through them; don’t ever stop.

“You’re broken down and tired”. Rise Up is a beautiful song talking about pushing through tough times and over coming hard obstacles in life. Listening to his song on repeate for about a year has created vivid images in my head. Every time I hear this song I see a light pink background with a mountain range in front and a story being told about a girl who pushes through getting bullied by dancing. I see this because that’s where I first heard the song and in that scenario. There is a certain emotion with the sound of this song, you start with a quiet yet meaningful beginning, then that takes you to her powerful voice in the chorus that changes the depressing part of the song to breaking down that brick wall with a sledgehammer and becoming happy with yourself. Throughout the song you will find repition, it creates more powerful images and more imagination in my opinion as more you hear lines more then one time or think about them and the more time to create full meaning of them to you. This ballad is truly moving and the message in the song is so strong; rise up.

Exponent Laws: Blog Post1

Multiplying powers with the same base you ADD the exponents:

-2^2\cdot-2^5 you would then add the exponents as 2+5= 7 the answer is -2^7 .

Dividing powers with the same base you SUBTRACT the exponents:

\frac{5^3}{5^5} so, 5-3=2 therefore the answer would be 5^2

When you have an equation and it has brackets with a base and a exponent but also and exponent outside the brackets you MULTIPLY both of the exponents together, then add the answer you got to the base as the new exponent:

(5^4)^2 you multiply 4 by 2 to get 8, therefore  5^8 is your final answer.

When you have a multiplication question in brackets with an exponent outside of the braces you can REWRITE the two bases with the exponent:

2×3^3 you would give both bases a 3, 3^3 2^3 would equal 27 x 8= 216.

To find the power of a question that is a division question in brackets with an exponent outside you TAKE AWAY the brackets and ADD the exponent to each base:

\frac{5}{6}^3 would turn into \frac{5^3}{6^3} because we add the exponent to both bases.

When you have a addition question with exponents you SUBTRACT, however when you subtract the same exponent it becomes ZERO. So, when you have an exponent of zero it will ALWAYS be 1.

5^4+5^4 you subtract 4 by 4 to get 0 therefore its 5^0 .

Word Problems with Fractions.

Jayden bought 1 whole tin of cookie dough but only made 1/8 of it, then she shared it with her friend Joel evenly. How much cookie dough did they each get?

First you have to find:

1/1 x 1/8 =

(1×1=2) 2/ (1×8=8) 2/8,

then you must find how much the two of them got evenly, (2 people / by 2):

2/8 / 1/2 =

2/8 x 2/1=

(2×2=4) 4/ (8×1=8) 4/8= 1/2

Therefore Joel and Jayden both got one half of what was baked.

My Digital Footprint

When I Googled myself I was impressed to see that a lot of the things I was associated with was athletic or academic related. I was very pleased as when the time comes to get a job and the employer Google my name they can see I enjoy being active and I am focused when it comes to working, in this case my schooling. This shows that I can be reliable and efficient when it comes to work that I need to get done. It would be impressive  if the job I am applying for had physical perks to it.

Now I am a person who isn’t so “Old School” as I do like using social media, wether for my personal enjoyment or schooling. So now that I have found what is out there that relates to me I can see that I like how it reflects on my name. I wouldn’t want it to change. In order for it not to become completely different I will have to maintain a good Digital FootprintI will be wise in what I post or do on the internet and social media.

If I had a younger sibling that would be coming to Riverside in the following years after me I would definitely sit down with them and tell them over and over again till they would be able to memorize that you do need to be CAREFUL and have a good mind set when ever you are online or on a social media website or app.

Investigation of Water Absorption- SSEP1- Mission8

A grade 6 science class in Santa Ana, California created a experiment that was selected for flight in 2015. There idea was to see if microgravity would interfere with the water absorption of Hyaluronic Acid. There is not a lot of water storage or resources in the International Space Station and it is hard to maintain good moister in the astronauts skin, as it is hard to maintain good water levels in their bodies. The Hyaluronic Acid is found all over our bodies from or eyes to joints, and to help moisturize our skin as well as sooth burns and injuries. This Acid is also found in spray we use to send medicine into our bodies by spraying into our nose. This grade 6 class found studies that showed that human flesh gets very dehydrated and irritated to the point it starts to itch. With the use of Hyaluronic Acid they believe that the astronauts would have a more comfortable trip. They researched the water absorbency and the make up of Hyaluronic Acid on earth and microgravity.

I had sent an email to Lizette Cabrera, who was a leader in my researched experiment, unfortunately she did not reply. I had asked about her experience, how she found background information and why they chose that. If she ever replies I will send it to you!

This was a fantastic idea/ experiment to try out. If i had the authority to choose a experiment to travel to space I would have loved to see this one, I suffer from excema and if I were a astronaut and up there it would go insane if it was dry, so if they could some how try to make my trip most enjoyable I would wish that. To keep my skin hydrated and heal any accidents that may occur. A Experimental group is almost self explanatory they “Experiment” the experiment and try it out/ do it. The Control group is the brain/ control center, they come up with the experiment.
