CHALLENGE:
- Make a boat that can float in water and hold the most amount of pennies.
PROBLEM:
- Make the boat hold as much pennies as possible without sinking.
HYPOTHESIS:
- The boat will float if marshmallows are placed at the corners of the boat to hold the weight of the pennies and expanding a boat would allow the weight of the pennies to be distributed on a wider scale
DESIGN:
(Top View)
(Bottom View)
My group chose this design because the straws below the boat help the boat float evenly and the marshmallows support the straws. The tin foil on the marshmallows keep them from being saturated.
HOW MANY PENNIES DID YOUR BOAT HOLD?
- Our boat held 74 pennies
WHAT WOULD YOU KEEP OR CHANGE ON YOUR BOAT DESIGN IF YOU WERE TO DO THIS AGAIN?
- If I were to do this again, I would make the walls taller to keep water out longer, make more room to spread the pennies better, and put more marshmallows on more areas like the center.
