This poem is about my portrayal of the liberation of concentration camps during WWII based on Charles V. Ferree’s entry. I wrote this poem to show my gratitude to them of how they fought for us. It reminds me of the courage these brave men had in their hearts once they stepped into the battlefield.

I have been thankful for all the moments of peaceful silence ever since,
For the past years was an endless uproarious noise
Guns firing, explosions left and right
Our men pushing towards the battlements
Enemy falling back to the barracks
Moments that did not feel victorious when it should have been,
Even when we were moments away from a win
For the horror I have seen cannot leave me
Bodies stripped of their clothing
And dumped like rejected treasures
Prisoners who gave in to their feral nature
Beating the Germans to a pulp
The innocence of the prisoners faded
Revenge took its place
The Nazis have fallen
None triumphs more than the prisoners
But not me,
This war only made me wonder:
Did we really win?
