Careers and Conversations Reflection

In planning we had the chance to speak to people working in a variety of jobs. We were able to ask them questions and get a better understanding of their job. It gave us the opportunity to learn about different jobs and as well as finding out what interests us. Personally I what I took from this experience was many pieces of advice that I can use in the future. My first speaker that I spoke to was Mike Whitaker. He founded IQ 2000 trivia. He gets to travel to different stages and provide a fun show. When we first started talking he made it interesting by asking us questions and learning about us. It really caught my attention.  I asked him if could provide some advice for kids my age and he told me that if I find something I am interested in and find a way to make it into a job. The reason he said this is because he really had a passion for trivia and he knows many things and some thought he might as well make a living out of it. Another speaker who I spoke to was Bryan Gee. The talk we had was significant because his job interested me and also he gave very valuable advice that stuck with me. He is a teacher here at riverside and also a co-founder of ducks volleyball. The two key things that he told me were to not wait, he asked “what are you waiting for?”. I interpreted this as a thought of just go for it and don’t be afraid. The second thing I took from this is to try everything, keep your options open. One valuable thing about trying everything is that with that you will find something that you love. During this whole experience I didn’t really find a job I was interested in but I did find very valuable advice that I can use for the future. The whole careers and conversations experience I found was very useful and valuable experience that opened my eyes for the future. I would definitely love to have this experience again.
