If we do not solve climate change, what will happen to the human race?

The globe is slowly heating up, and we seem to be doing nothing about it. What will happen if we lose our grip on our climate, and we descend into a pollution-filled future? How long will the human race hold out, and how would we be able to pull it off?

Question 1

Would we able to return to a stable planet?:

One of the most common questions about climate change is if we would be able to turn this around, even if it was too late. The thing about climate change is that it cannot be stopped, rather slowed. So can we slow it down even if it’s too late? That question is hard to answer. Humans have already caused major changes, and some say it’s too late already. To this question I think it would be a no, simply because of the damage we’ve already done. It’s still not too late. If we could start now by slowing the flow of greenhouse gases and learning to adapt to the changes already put in motion, then we could easily limit some of the worse effects of climate change for the near future.

Question 2

Who would be the most effected?

People to be most effected would likely be people who live in third world countries and people in poverty. They rely more on local resources and not on imports, which means they have to provide for both themselves and other, possibly much larger, foreign governments. The water they rely on for food and to feed their livestock all comes from rainwater, which is becoming unreliable as the weather patterns become more and more unpredictable. Natural disasters are becoming more and more frequent and seasons are shifting, which all put their lives at risk, and causes hunger and poverty to skyrocket.

Question 3

How would our lives change?

Life in a polluted world would change drastically. Efforts to turn the world back to its original state may still give people hope, but isn’t guaranteed to actually save the planet. People would certainly riot against the government because of things like water quality, living conditions, and other problems caused by climate change. On the daily basis, climate change would do damage to our air quality. This can cause several problems for us, such as poor air quality. Poor air quality has been linked to several health problems, such as stroke, heart attack, lung cancer, and respiratory diseases. The quality of living conditions would certainly be reduced, especially in big cities. Climate change also disrupts food availability, cuts down access to food, and affects the quality of the food on our dinner table.

Final question

How does this effect world politics?

World politics have always been a topic that can start heated arguments out of nowhere with someone you know nothing about. When climate is brought into the spectrum of political madness, It’s not a good mixture. Corrupt leaders always dismiss it or belittle it. Governments ignore and shut down movements and protests that try and raise awareness for climate change, defeating the purpose of free speech. Political parties are very divided on the topic of climate change, and it shows. 20 years ago, in the United states, both Democrats and Republicans agreed that climate change was beginning to take a toll on the planet. But after a decade of shifting politics and another set of world problems caused a 30% gap. 76% of Democrats, and 42% of Republicans, compared to 10 years before when they agreed with each other. These divisions are happening all over the world, both in our politics and our normal, everyday lives. It shows that maybe the reason why we can’t find a solution is because the world is moving and changing too fast for us to slow down and find a solution to the climate, that is slowly but steadily becoming a existential threat to Earth and all who live upon it.

Conclusion and reflection

So, would humans be able to hold their ground in the fight against climate change in the future? judging by how things are going now, we probably wouldn’t last a decade without falling into complete chaos and anarchy. World politics cannot decide on a solid way to slow down the effect that climate change is having on our planet, ad protestors voices seem not to be heard. Every day that goes by the temperature slowly rises, as emissions continue to pollute the atmosphere, and our seas fill with garbage. People say it’s too late, but I refuse to believe that it is. We all start somewhere small, and in this fight against the Earth’s existential climate change, everything matters. Every piece of litter we pickup. Every dollar that we donate towards charities that can help those in danger. Every time we spread awareness about our fight is like a pat on the back for each and every one of us who contribute. So before it’s too late, do your part.

Now, it’s time to reflect on my project. I enjoyed researching and reading through articles, as I find it interesting to read about the worlds problems and the solutions we come up with to solve them. So when I heard about this project, I was excited to get started. The first act of business that I took was brainstorming a bunch of questions as best as I could for 30 minutes that related to my wonder question. I had things like; “How would this affect me?” Or “How will this effect food supply”? and also “Does it effect physical health”? I ended up grouping most of them into the 3 main ones I have now, and I like it a lot better because I personally think it gets to the point faster. Originally, I wanted to use another tool called piktochart, which is kind of like an infographic builder. But after consulting it with my teacher I ended up having to move all the information to the sway. Other than that little road bump, creating the sway was smooth sailing, and it was a good experience overall. It’s a lot better than just putting it all on a word document, and this is because it’s easier for me to organize tthe questions and topics (I couldn’t organize my stuff if my life depended on it, it’s too much of a hassle for me).But If there was one thing that I think I could do to spice this up is to add more media, like pictures. I didn’t put the infographic as there was too much writing to put on a piece of paper that big, and I couldn’t find any good photos that related to my sway. But most importantly, I liked having to do this instead of a test or a sheet of homework. I hope that I can experience something like this once again in the near future.

  1. Thanks for your post. I really like how you have found a question that is meaningful to you. You have some great sub-questions to lead you to address your essential question. You have not, however, completed part 2 of the assignment where you answer the information fluency questions. I also notice that you didn’t use a presentation app. Consider adding images and flow to elevate your message.
