DOAS Monologues

The following is an example I created of a monologue for the character of Linda from “Death of a Salesman.”

This is a monologue because it is one character talking for an extended period of time that is uninterrupted, it also reveals the character’s thoughts and feelings.

This Monologue would fit in the current plot after Linda finds out about Willy trying to kill himself.

Linda: I am a wife and a mother. My sons and husband are always my first priority, I love them so much and they have brought me so much happiness over the years. I wish that they would get along better, and be happy like they used to be. When Biff was in school they would always get along great and barely fight. I hate seeing my two favourite boys fighting. They are always bickering about jobs, I try to be there for both of them, but it is sometimes difficult to always be in-between their fights. I know that Willy means well because he wants what is best for Biff. Willy is always looking out for our family, he is such a caring and hardworking man. I hate seeing him in such a bad place, he doesn’t know that I am aware of this but I know that he is trying to kill himself. I’ve found a rubber piece on our gas pipe because he wants to kill himself, and I know that his recent actions with our car aren’t accidents. His multiple recent car crashes are not coincidences nobody has multiple car crashes in this short amount of time. I wish he could see himself in the light that I do.
