Week 7 in Math 10

In week 7 of math 10 we got introduced to trigonometry which is finding the missing side or sides or the angle of the right triangle you are solving. We first learned how to find the which sides are each the hypotenuse, the opposite and the adjacent. The hypotenuse is across from the right angle, the opposite is across from the reference angle and the adjacent is beside the reference angle. We also learned how to create equations from the numbers we are given. we learned to solve them using SOH CAH TOA which helps us find which button to press on our calculator (sin, cos, tan) SOH is sin = opposite / hypotenuse, CAH is cos = adjacent / hypotenuse and TOA = tan = opposite over adjacent. Also if the X is on the bottom of the faction you will have to reciprocate both sides to get the X on top.

Careers and Conversations Reflection

Careers & Conversations Reflection
I spoke with 6 very different people and with all different backgrounds but the most interesting person was Julie Porter. She is an Eco Medic and a Restoration Biologist. Berry Yamanouchi (he is a Musician and a Card Game Professional) inspired me because he grew up thinking he was going to be a doctor or a lawyer but he took up music and started to play the piano and was very passionate about it. And then in university the took up the card game “Bridge” and got very good at it and started teaching other people how to play. And out of all of that he still lives a happy life at home. I would consider being an Eco Medic / Restoration Biologist because I feel that science is interesting to me and after Cooking would be a second passion of mine and it might not be an Eco Medic but something in the sciences, but it was really cool to hear about the different things that she wants to do for the environment. You need mostly hard skills for this job because of all the equipment that you will need to use a lot of responsibility, team work and leadership because she had told me about how she leads a team into the wild somewhere to test the waters to see if the water is safe and healthy. I do think the Careers and Conversations morning was valuable because it opens too many different career options that I never thought that I’d be interested in.

Week 6 in Math 10

In week 6 of math 10 we continued the measurement unit. I was most interested in how to find the surface area and volume of a hemisphere, basically its half of a sphere.
For a sphere the formulas are:
SA= 4\pi r^2
V= \frac{4}{3} \pi r^2

And for a hemisphere:
SA= 2\pi r^2 (its half of the sphere)
V= \frac{2}{3} \pi r^3

Week 5 in Math 10

In this week we started a new unit called measurement, we first learned about the Metric Measurements and the all the prefixes of each of them. Like how the k means Kilo or 1000 OR 10^3 and how Milli means \frac{1}{100}. The U in the center is the base line is the “Unit” and can represent stuff like meters, grams or any other base unit. The metric system is based around the number ten so converting numbers we just move the decimal over based on the number line.
