How and why have you responded to, “The Crucible” in a personal, creative, and critical way?

Whenever I am given the option on how to present a project, I usually make a basic powerpoint; however, I made an Instagram account for The Crucible because I believe it would intensify the purpose of the project in a creative and critical way. Personally, I believe in our society today, myself included, social media is a major influence in our lives. It has become a large aspect of growing up and through it we are exposed to many things such as peer pressure, which is why I believe it was a good platform for my topic. As Instagram is a visual application, I used images to creatively explain my theme and allow the audience to understand my topic with both text and illustrations. As social media is so dominant in our generation, I used it because I believed it was something everyone could connect with and thought it was a critical way to have people relate.

How have you personally connected to, “The Crucible?”

After reading The Crucible, many of the themes that were within the story affected me in a personal way. Throughout my entire life, I have experienced many of the hardships represented in the play such as peer pressure, dishonesty, and sacrifice. However, I have also encountered the brighter themes such as relationships and religion. In my life, peer pressure and dishonesty is becoming more noticable, especially being in high school. Resisting the pressure from others and trying to stay truthful is difficult because as humans we feel the need to fit in and feel accepted in our society. At times, I follow along to what others are doing to feel more welcomed and agree to things that are against my beliefs. I have grown up in the church and have been a Christian for my entire life. I can relate to many characters in the play because following any religion causes one to make sacrifices and I understand how it can be hard to maintain religious guidelines. Throughout the entire story, the majority of the characters try to maintain their reputation and feel the need to ignore honesty. Personally, I also do this. When I am in different environments, such as church, school, or home, I always try my best to preserve my image and keep the reputation I have. I believe many of the themes in The Crucible are relevant to me and affect many parts of my life.
