How does the artifact you selected demonstrate strengths & growth in the communication competency?

In what ways might you further develop your communication competency? Critical Thinking:

During the developing process of this essay the thing that really worked for me was the peer editing. It was great having someone else read over my work and finding the grammar mistakes and giving feedback on how to make it better. Usually when I write something I miss some of the mistakes because I know how I should have wrote it and that’s the way I read it in my head. It was great to get feedback from my peers and it helped me to develop my rising action more as well as my overall story. On the other hand something that didn’t work for me was the plot diagram. Usually when I have an idea I plan it all out in my head, so it was hard for me to write down my thoughts on paper. The brainstorm and the plot diagram were sort of useless, in the way that it didn’t help me as much as it should have. Although it was nice to be able to write my ideas out. By brainstorming it helped me to plan out the rising action, creating motifs, and expanding on the characters thoughts.

Creative Thinking:

As for further developing my ideas I tried to expand more by creating more details about the setting as well as the characters. I expanded trying to create my protagonist and how her views changed throughout the story. I added lots of dialogue to add to this because I thought that help the readers to see how she changed and what she thought of the matter at hand. I tried my best to get creative with the story by adding experiences to the characters; like the death of Layla’s mom and Nolan’s travels around the world.

Strengths:

My strengths for this essay, mainly was my use of dialogue. I liked using the dialogue to further develop the characters. By using it, it should what the characters were thinking, as well as helped to describe their personalities, and how they would communicate with other people in certain circumstances. Another strength is my flow of the story. I think the story addresses everything on the plot diagram and uses good imagery and poetic devices. I also addressed the prompt of the essay well as my characters views on the world did change throughout the story.

Weaknesses:

Throughout this essay there are a couple things I wish I would’ve done differently. I think I could’ve done a story that was a bit more exciting and not something that is sort of an everyday thing. The weakest part of my story was the climax. I felt that after building up to it with all that rising action it could’ve been a bit more exciting. Another weakness of mine is that I tend to overthink my ideas. I’m always trying to make it my best work. This isn’t always a bad thing but for me I sometimes add too much that the story gets confusing or I’ll start with one idea and then change it and then end up changing it back again. In short, one weakness is planning the story out and then not sticking it with my main idea.
