I interviewed Ahmed Al Lami through call, I got his contact through my dad as he is his real estate agent. I interviewed him because I want to be a real estate agent when I grow up, I’m passionate about this because money is limitless and I would get to be my own boss and choose my own clients. here’s his website.

http://www.lamirealestate.com/

Here’s how the interview went.

Can you explain your roles and responsibilities with your current position?

My role as a real estate agent is finding the most suitable property with the best price for the clients, answering the phones and emails about the property’s, acting on behalf of the seller, building trust between the me and the client, talking to people and patient with the clients.

What obstacles have you faced to get you where you are today?

It is difficult if when you are trying to present the buyer with something good and suitable for them, there aren’t many options. The second obstacle is the approval to the amount for the client they can qualify it for, so the qualified number the mortgage or the loan, they get it from the bank in order for them to buy a house. Because sometimes they can be qualified for, let’s say $1 million, majority of the house is now going for above that number, so it’s difficult to make the buyer match or to make them be Qualified for the amount of money they are required to secure for the property.

What advice would you pass onto someone interested in what you are doing?

I always say that if you have ambitions and you want to do good in your life and you don’t like your 9-5 job, real estate is a good place to be in. First of all money is limitless, however you need to put time and effort in your work that’s coming with it. You have to always look for the job, the job doesn’t come for you. You have to know the basics, you have to do the door knocking,  networking, open houses, talk to people, And all the knowledge, research, social media, and gadgets helps. Selling the house or draft a contract, that’s the easy part of the job. Finding the right client to work with is the challenge. You have to make work with the time you have, such as going out look about, handing business cards, talk to people, meeting with lawyers.

Why are you passionate about your job or role?

Because it matches with my personality, I like dealing with people, challenges, having a profession, whereas real estate is a very respectable profession, it’s got a license, money, we have the government body, the challenges can be stressful sometimes but again it’s a job that is very rewarding, you meet a lot of interesting people. The feeling when your helping people out to secure their real estate is one of the biggest goals in my life, and imagining that you are a part of that project that helps people feels very accomplishing which is priceless.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Freedom. Being my own boss, unlimited income, I want to work, i don’t want to slow down, it’s all up to me, I don’t have to report to anyone, I put my own hours and work with it, I choose my own hours. It’s all under the umbrella of freedom.

What are your likes and dislikes about your job?

Dealing with people all the time, the challenge aspects, your learning everyday, what I don’t like about my job is sometimes you can be doing the job and your spending a lot of your time by yourself so it’s not much of teamwork. The second thing that I dislike about my job is the stress that comes with trying to find the perfect property for the clients, and sometimes the clients could be quite of a challenge but that’s only the minor thing that comes with any other job. There’s no perfect environment for any job that you like.

Thank you so much Ahmed I learned a lot during that interview, now I’m even more determined about becoming a real estate agent.

“Birds on wire” by Banksy

This image properly reflects and represents the problems that have plagued our civilization for years. People in our culture will exclude, oppress, and discriminate against others, thereby driving them out of our countries. They begin to torment them simply because they are different. Using satire, this image depicts our society’s difficulties. In this image, a group of birds is tormenting and attempting to expel this other bird that is not like them. Similar to how certain people in our society discriminate against others simply because they are different. The placards are also satirical: “Please stay away from our worms.” People believe that people from other countries are stealing their jobs and resources, which is a caricature of how real people operate. They are threatened by this and attempt to evict them. These placards make fun of what some people say to those who are different or who come from other nations. The group of birds is likewise considerably larger than the tiny bird by himself. A representation of how people who face discrimination may feel. They are modest in comparison to these large organizations, in fact, they are tiny in comparison to them. With their sheer numbers, the group of birds overwhelms the smaller bird. However, this image also depicts a mob mentality. One of the birds in the back of the flock is clearly looking somewhere else, not paying attention to what everyone else is doing or what they are doing. Just like some people only participate in riots and protests because others do. Because everyone else is doing it, the larger the group, the more people will join in. People tend to join the majority in circumstances, even if they do not completely comprehend or believe what is going on. When one examines closely at the image, one can see that the wire on which the birds are standing is broken and detached, and that the background of the birds is likewise changed. This represents the sense of disconnection that some people may experience. They discriminate against others because they are different, because they are estranged. The birds’ various colors are also symbolic. It demonstrates the separation and contrast between the two groups of birds even more. The large bunch is all the same colors. Big and intimidating. They are also all the same species of bird. They’re all pigeons. But the brightly colored bird is all alone, so small and insignificant. It’s not a pigeon, believe it or not. It’s distinct. The image depicts an issue in our culture, utilizing satire, and artwork to make this point. Banksy wanted people to stroll by, take a look, and consider what it meant. Perhaps it will alter people’s thoughts and opinions. It has the potential to make people more aware of the problems that exist in our society. What makes this artwork even more important is that the town had erased and painted the artwork not knowing it was made by Banksy. Banksy wanted people to confront Racism, but instead the people confronted him. In the beginning, they called it Racist. After they realized it was made by Banksy, they apologized. They didn’t get the point Banksy was trying to make with the artwork. Discrimination has infested and infected our society. People focus too much on the differences we have with one another but fail to recognize how similar we all are. It is our differences that make us special, so we should celebrate those differences. But we should also celebrate our similarities. We are all different, but deep down we are all the same.

Tableau Novel – The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian

Exposition

The exposition of background information into a storey or narrative is known as narrative exposition. This information could include details on the setting, the backstories of the characters, previous narrative events, historical backdrop, and so on. In the literary world.

I chose this exposition because it introduces junior, his family such as his mom, dad, his dog, and his sister, his disabilities, how his brain is full of water or grease and how uneven his eyesight is and how people view Indians or poor people and people with disabilities. Like when the doctor thinks Indians have a higher pain tolerance. how people bully junior for being poor and for his disabilities, getting called names such as the r slur as an insult although he’s straight.

Initiating incident

A definition of an inciting incident an episode, plot point, or event that draws the reader into the storey is known as the inciting incident.

I chose the part where junior accidentally hit Mr. P in the face with a book junior was reading, this part is mentioned because he likes the class geometry. He even wanted to kiss the book and admitted that he’s a book kisser knowing that it was perverted. He was about to kiss the book but halfway he saw the authors name and found out it was his mom who wrote it Agnes Adam. Junior got angry as he realized the book was 30 years older than junior himself. As his hopes and dreams floated in a mushroom cloud, is at least what he said. As his anger grew stronger, he threw the book blindly and it accidentally hit Mr. P.  And of course, he got in trouble by the teacher and his disappointed family as he got suspension.

Rising action 1

One of the most important aspects of a plot, or storyline, is rising action. After the exposition (introduction) and before the climax, there is rising action (highest point of interest). Rising action introduces and develops the text’s main conflict. During the growing activity, minor disagreements may occur.

After Mr. P tells junior to go to Reardan telling junior that he doesn’t want the same thing happening to his sister which she went downhill, and stopped her education although she was hard working, she even stayed in the basement 23 hours a day. After that junior decides to go to reardan, a school full of white rich kids. He had a hard time telling rowdy about his transfer, it ended in a bad fight and junior ended up getting punched by rowdy while he was angry as he couldn’t control his emotion. While junior was walking out of school on his last day, a bunch of kids where laughing at him and staring at junior as he left the school.

Rising action 2

One of the most important aspects of a plot, or storyline, is rising action. After the exposition (introduction) and before the climax, there is rising action (highest point of interest). Rising action introduces and develops the text’s main conflict. During the growing activity, minor disagreements may occur.

Roger was bullying junior for his ethnicity and how he’s Indian and his disabilities calling him names and making fun of him because he’s poor. Junior punched rowdy as he got angry and couldn’t put up with all the bullying. everyone in that town has at least a little racism inside them. An aspect we used in this picture to make it look alive is showing junior punching roger as the people in the background are shocked

Rising action 3

One of the most important aspects of a plot, or storyline, is rising action. After the exposition (introduction) and before the climax, there is rising action (highest point of interest). Rising action introduces and develops the text’s main conflict. During the growing activity, minor disagreements may occur.

This is when roger finally accepts junior. He accepts junior because junior was brave enough to punch him. He finally accepts junior for who he is, his skin color his uniqueness and his disability. How we made this look somewhat alive is we used a photo of a 20-dollar bill and as rowdy was handing over money to junior by the toilet, junior was crying of gratefulness. The toilet on the ground also shows how junior felt like vomiting, that was also another aspect we used.

Climax

Climax means the most intense, exciting, or important point of something, a culmination or apex.

This photo is about the basketball game against the Rez. Everyone was going crazy and excited. How we made this alive was by taking a video of us jumping and screenshotted to the point where we jumped our highest to make it seem more alive.

Falling action

Falling action is what happens near the end of a story after the climax and resolution of the major conflict. The majority of literary and dramatic works (stories, novels, plays, movies) are built on action—characters doing things, typically pursuing things they want.

This is where when junior was sitting down feeling upset and depressed and just thinking. while juniors mom was speaking to him and comfort him. Then roger comes in worried about junior. How we made this seem more realistic was by having junior lean forward and have his hand over his head to make him look more depressed and upset while he’s thinking.

Conclusion

The definition of a conclusion is the last part of something, or an opinion reached after some thought. An example of conclusion is the final scene in a movie. An example of conclusion is the decision to purchase the red sedan after comparing it with the blue sports car.

the conclusion of the story is how junior and rowdy becoming friends again, shaking hands showing they have regained their friendship. The realism part is how we had junior and rowdy shake hands while looking each other in the eye. showing that they have resolved their problems and forgiving each other.

Indigenous Exploration Residential school Podcast

                                        PODCAST

                                      REFLECTION

My experience creating this assignment wasn’t too complicated, we didn’t get much work done on the first recording day because there was a microphone issue, we finished our project on the second day, we did half in class and stayed after school for 1h to complete our podcast. My groups path to researching about residential schools followed along the guide below.

RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS

STEPS HAVE TO COMPLETE EACH:
1) Pick a school
2) Region/area information
3) Bands in area
4) Indigenous Languages Spoken
5) School Information
6) Anecdotes (stories from those involved)
7) Effects/Impacts

We researched using Google, the library’s cite websites didn’t show us any information regarding our topic, so it was absolutely no help to us.

Our group learned many things while recording, because we got to understand what each and everyone of us said, especially when we said it our selves, it gave us a deeper understanding, we asked each other questions to learn even further, and double check with each other if the information we researched is correct.

This ties in with what I have learned before because I’ve already learned most of this information in grade 6,7, I used most of my learning from before to add to the podcast, my mindset didn’t change for the reason I’ve always felt bad for first nations and felt that it wasn’t fair for the children that had to go through all the trauma in the residential schools.
