Photography Portfolio

My name is Hayfaa Sami. I am a nail tech since June 2023 and a certified lash tech since January 4th, 2023. I took this course in hopes of learning how to use a camera and get great pictures in order to post my creations online to promote my business. This assignment is about creating a sketchbook of things that are important to you. I chose my lash & nail business, because it’s a big part of my life. I’ve always liked photography because when I take a really good picture, I look back at it in the future and say, “I took that picture”.

in this course I learned many things, such as, how to photoshop and how to take great pictures. the most challenging part was how to take pictures of my clients with a camera, do I take the camera home every day? but then I learned that my family has their own camera, so I used that instead for some of the photos. I like this sketchbook assignment because it shows a portion of the many sets I’ve done. something that could be improved is how there’s a lot of space left to be filled.

two of my best photos in

micro photography

I learned how to use a micro lens. the most challenging part was to keep my cat from flinching every time the camera clicks. so, I had my sister hold him into place and I made him get familiar with the camera by letting him smell it. I like this image because it’s so clear and shows his features very well.

photoshoot club

this picture was taken in the gym during a volleyball match. I learned how to use a fast shutter speed and get that frozen movement pictures. I like this photo because its well centered.

moving forward I’d like to take these skills into my business. taking great pictures brings in more clients and shows your potential. i plan to keep challenging myself by learning more and more about the camera. which would make me comfortable with using it more and more. my 3 goals to keep fostering this skill is. 1 use it into my business. 2 take great landscape photos. 3 to look back at photos I’ve taken before for memories.

Week 1 Edublog Reflection – Circle Talks

Circle Talks

a. Why do we engage in circle talk? How could circle talk help create a sense of community?

we engage in circle talks to communicate with one and other and understand each. doing a circle talk will Encourage Inclusion as well.

b. What does listening look like? Why is it important to respectfully listen to others during circle talk? How does it feel to be listened to and understood by others?

listening should look like, having eye contact with the speaker, not going on your phone, not interrupting them and not talking over them. It feels great to be listened to, the feeling of not being ignored shows that the person respects you.

Aquatic Field Studies

Aquatic field studies blog

Introduction

The objective of our field studies was to identify what water quality contributors are safe for aquatic life, such as what water quality, contributors, parameters, etc That can make the environment unstable. What pH is safe for living things if it’s a pH of 7 then its neutral. The indication of how cloudy or hazy a fluid is by turbidity. In conclusion the objective was to find out the levels of the water quality. We looked into the Coquitlam River site, and the Oxbow Pond site. This connects to the four spheres because the geosphere, in turn, reflects the sun’s energy back into the atmosphere. The biosphere receives gases, heat, and sunlight (energy) from the atmosphere. It receives water from the hydrosphere and a living medium from the geosphere.

Coquitlam river site

We can see from the findings of the water quality index that the water quality rating is fairly good, if not almost exceptional.

We discovered a lot of interesting stuff in the river. My group discovered two stoneflies, one mayfly, and one cranefly among the invertebrates. In the river, we also discovered a frog and a crayfish. These findings indicate that the river’s health is good, and it is a favorable area for these organisms to exist, because these organisms are pollution sensitive.

Oxbow Pond Site:

Water quality test and overall water quality index value:

Because the river’s water quality rating is 90.24 and the pond’s value is 77.62, these figures indicate that they are both good water quality, but the river is closer to poor while the pond is closer to average.

Comparing the 2 sites:

The river has slightly better water quality and invertebrate life than the pond, as we can see by simply walking into both. When Ionalyn walked into the pond, it smelled like fecal matter right away, unlike when she walked into the river, which smelled absolutely nothing. This is most likely due to the fact that the pond has no new water flow, so everything is just lying there, unlike the river, which is constantly moving. The river’s bottom is primarily rocks, as opposed to the pond’s sludge, which sinks into you with every step, almost like quicksand.

Reflection:

This activity wasn’t really fun in my opinion because I dislike seeing insects which makes me feel like itching, but it was an experience to remember. I learned quite a lot, for example, water temperature tells you if its safe for certain aquatic living things or not, what lives in there and what kinds of aquatic life are usually in rivers and ponds.

Minecraft Solution Fluency – Mexico City

Define:

Mexico City is one of the world’s densest cities, with notoriously bad air quality. Beginning in the early 1990s. A haze of pollution hovers over Mexico City’s vast metropolitan region, which is home to nearly 20 million people. On certain days, air pollution obscures the view of the hills and mountains that surround the capital. Half of the year, generally during the colder months, the foul air in the city may be harmful to people’s health. Some people have eye and throat discomfort. The city-funded scientists use radar to measure wind speed 24 hours a day, tracking the movement of microparticles of pollution that may lodge deep into people’s lungs. The World Health Organization has established a restriction for going outside. Mexico city is surrounded by mountains which keeps the pollution from escaping which makes the city’s condition worse.

Discovery:

Birds died in large numbers, and people were poisoned with lead, copper, and mercury as a result of the filthy air. Even in the winter, the school day had been moved back to 10 a.m. from 8 a.m. When the temperature falls below freezing, a layer of frozen air forms on top of the pollutants, keeping them in the city. This is referred to as thermal inversion. Some of the most common airborne pollutants include Sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon dioxide, and ozone, which is considered toxic at ground level. The top 4 causes of the air pollution in Mexico City is wildfires, Seasons of extended drought and high temperatures have occurred. As a result, flames broke out. This causes the city’s air quality to deteriorate to the point that the local authority advises residents to stay indoors since the air outdoors is unhealthy to breathe. The 2nd top cause is vehicles that run on flammable fuels. Every day, almost 8 million automobiles travel in the Mexican capital, generating more than 7,000 tons of pollutants. This, in turn, causes pollution. 3rd top cause is Industrial Plant Emissions primary pollutants may cause everything from eye and throat discomfort to global warming. Many primary pollutants undergo a photochemical reaction, which results in secondary pollutants. The 4th top cause is Surrounding Mountains that doesn’t allow Pollutants to Escape which is one of the major issues in Mexico City Because the winds are unable to transport pollution over the surrounding mountains, various pollutants such as carbon monoxide accumulate above the city.

Deliver:

Debrief:

For our project, Hayfaa and I have constructed a machine to clear up air pollution. Specifically, in Mexico City. Inside our machine there are filters that are specifically made for carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide. The machine sucks the pollution in and filters out chemicals and bacteria that are in the air, and then sucks through a layer of trees to remove any access carbon dioxide. After the air has been filtered, the fresh air is released back into the environment. During this project things went pretty smoothly, and we had no problems with the functions whatsoever. We learned many things while researching.

2. What new or familiar digital tools did you try to use as you worked through this project?

Pixel, Word, Sway, Microsoft edge

3.  What was the process you used to investigate the topic and how did yo verify and cite the information you found?

I went and look at many different websites to see if they had similar information to check if the information was correct. I didn’t have much trouble finding information, because my browser can see if websites are safe or not. all I had to do was check if its real.

4. How did the process of completing this challenge go? What could you have done better?

what I could have done better was adding more features to my sway and adding more pictures would have made the sway look better. the process of this project in the beginning was somewhat slow, but I worked on most of it at home. It was a bit of a challenge to come up with a curiosity question but it all went well in the end. Asking questions helped me and my partner understand the project well.
