Desmos Art Functions Card 2021

When you are happy with post card and it replicates the original picture and captures your uniqueness, screen shot your image and paste it into an Edublog post. Also upload the original picture that you were replicating.

In your post write to explain how you figured out what equations to use. Did you have any challenges? Any aha moments? Did you get help? Did you use any strategies? How did this assignment help you understand more about transformations of functions.

I figured out by studying every equation’s shape. I had a challenge when I graphed the volleyball because non-function formulas were not permitted. Since I could not use circle formula, I decided to use two semi-circle formulas to graph the volleyball. Ever afterward, semi-circle functions were used conveniently. I had aha moment when I realized I could also use Trigonometric functions to graph the bottom of my shirt. I got help from Ms. Hubbard for colouring. I used strategies to make my art more smooth which was using more difficult formulas to over billionth place. This assignment helped me to understand more about transformations of functions. I analyzed how to move functions upward, downward, left, and right. I feel like I am more comfortable using functions now.

Steps and Creative process

I personally enjoyed this Desmos Project because it was a combination of art and math. When I first saw the project, I thought I could not do it well because it seemed like a difficult and complex project. I was worried, but I was simultaneously stimulated because it also seemed interesting. Before starting to graph, I studied every formula’s shape and analyzed how I could use these formulas in the correct spots. I chose a photo after absorbing enough information and techniques. I chose complicated photo which was myself serving volleyball during school Fraser Valley Championship. I chose complex one because I wanted to challenge myself and inspire next Math 10 Honours class. It took me the whole winter break to only finish lines and portion of colourings. I did colourings after finished all the lines. I think this strategy was helpful because if I had done colourings while I was doing lines, it would have confused me even more. I used rgb color picker to get more smooth and matching colours. It was difficult to change colours and sizes of the lines because I had over 1100 lines. Moreover, I had submitted this artwork to the Desmos Art Contest. I had to copy down every single formula one by one to the contest file. It was a really hard work to move all the formulas I have created.

I think I have achieved more than what I expected, and I am satisfied with my work.
