Visual Safety Guide Tips

Here are some points I believe are vital to a safe classroom:

• Use knives and all other sharp instruments correctly

I believe that using knives and sharp instruments correctly is one of the most important factors of safety in the kitchen. Injuries in the kitchen can happen very quickly, and it usually happens to people who aren’t paying attention to what their doing or people who aren’t using their tool correctly.

• Never put a hot utensil directly on the counter

Hot utensils can burn the counter, and it can burn you if you think that the utensil is cooled down and reach for the handle.

• Keep your mask on at all times in the kitchen (COVID tip)

Since we’re in a pandemic, a mask is mandatory. It helps slow the spread of the coronavirus by taking every precaution.

• Upon entering the lab, place all books, bags, jackets, etc in the designated area. Keep passageways clear.

Bags, jackets, books, etc are a tripping hazard, and it can not only hurt yourself, but it can hurt other people if you fall on other people.

• Put a clean apron on and tie back hair if long

Nobody likes having hair in their food! Tying back long hair helps you as much as it helps the person you’re feeding.
