Gender Equality issues in Basketball

The article I chose is about gender equality in basketball and specifically in the WNBA. This article mentions how the NBA players make much more than WNBA players and how it’s been like that for a while, it also explains how the NBA has a bigger fanbase and more than twice as much games as the WNBA. This article involves professional WNBA player Sue Bird who plays for the Seattle Storm,  and Nneka Ogwumike also a professional WNBA player who plays for the Los Angeles Sparks. This article explains their perspective on this topic, Sue Bird also mentions how her partner Megan Rapinoe, professional soccer player also goes through these gender equality issues when it comes to salary, and it’s written by NBC. I chose this article because I find it interesting, and because basketball is an interest of mine and I enjoy playing it. Finally, this relates to “The Friday That Changed Everything”, because based off the salary a NBA player makes and the salary a WNBA player makes, it says that men are superior, and deserve more, which is what they are saying in the book, that carrying the water is a man’s job, and that girls aren’t as good as men.
