If our invention was brought to real life, although it will be a bit more on the costly side, this would definitely help reduce the pollution in the ocean. As the boat is solar-powered, it would not have to run on a gas engine which would pollute the air and have oil spill in the ocean from the gas engine, so being solar powered would solve that problem. Also, our innovation would also be effective because the retractable vacuum can take in a lot of chemicals, plastic, and other unknown materials out the ocean that fits inside the boat or beside it when the vacuum is not being used to not occupy a lot of space. Our innovation relates to past units and topics we’ve learned about in science this semester, because we learned about the WHMIS symbols, and one of the symbols was of toxic products and substances that if on our skin can be hazardous, and these types of products and substances are dumped into our oceans which can get cleaned up by the vacuum. Apart from this, our innovation relates to when we were taught about reproduction and cells, and it can relate, because with the vacuum, it can eliminate plastic from the ocean, which can also kill animals when tangled in our swallowed, and kill them which stops them from reproducing.
Your solution was really good. The idea of the boat that scoops up plastics was creative. A question I have is where does the plastic go after the boat gets filled up?
