Adaptive Tech Artifacts of Learning

the experience i had with Tim was really great. i got to do some many things and i had a blast trying to help Tim. i got to design a my idea on tinkercad which was pretty neat and i also got the chance to 3d print my idea, but unfortunately something didn’t quite work with the design we made. in school we learn a lot about things like making ideas, brainstorming, solution fluency, and  all of these things that will help us in the future, but we don’t really ever get to use it in the real world. which is why i like this project/experience we had with Tim because we actually got to use the skills we learned and put it in the real world.

the idea that we put forward was the couch cane, which was basically a cane for a couch, which is pretty simple. however, making the couch cane wasn’t very simple. we had the design, but we didn’t know/have the materials/tools to make the cane. so, we decided to go to Mr.romani for help. fortunately he said yes to letting us use the tools and materials in the shop. however, Mr.romani is a busy person and most of the time when we went to the shop he was usually not there, but i don’t blame him. so, because of that we didn’t get to finish our project in time, so i took the project to my house and decided to finish it on my own time. i am still currently working on the project because with the lack of tools that i have i can’t easily cut through 2 inches of  wood, but i am making progress and the project is almost done. our design that we made in tinkercad was really good, but i think that the actual project is very different from the tinkercad design by that i mean it is not as good/it did not end the way we thought it would.

so through out this whole experience i’ve learned a lot of things. most of the things that i’ve learned from this experience was from failure, either way i did learn. i also developed some skills along the way too. for example, a skill i learned was time management, and i learned about time management from this experience because my group and i did not plan out what we were going to do and when we were going to do it, resulting in us rushing some parts of the project. however, i do feel that we met the learning goals, just not to the fullest extent.

overall, i did really enjoy this collaboration and i do think that this collaboration went pretty well. there were some bumps in the road, but i do think that even with the bumps we did a pretty good job. there were good things that we did well on and we obviously had the bad things that we did. some good things that we did during this project was . some bad things we did during this project was that we didn’t manage our time properly, we didn’t have good communication, and we weren’t on task some of the time because there were some distractions that took us off task. overall, with all the things we did on this connections-based learning project, i really enjoyed it. i enjoyed that we had an actually purpose with this project and that what we made was actually going to help somebody, this is the first time doing a project like this and i really did enjoy it, and i would definitely want to try something like this again.

edit:

we have finally finished the project, and here is the finished project.

the holes are meant for the legs of couch to slip in so that it gives the cane leverage. i also realized that gorilla glue really likes to puff up  which makes it look really weird

I am really proud of what you and your partners accomplished to help Tim deal with the difficulties of Huntington’s disease. I think the couch cane that you created is amazing. You considered the needs Tim revealed and you responded to those needs with an effective device for helping Tim get off the couch. I love how you talk about how you learned from failure and the importance of time management. I am glad that you would do something like this again. What is something you could apply your learning to?
