A )What is DNA
DNA is short for deoxyribonucleic acid it is nucleic acid, DNA is the fourth major group of biological molecules, hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms, DNA is located in the cell nucleus, DNA bases pair up with each other, A with T and C with G, to form units called base pairs. Each base is also attached to a sugar molecule and a phosphate molecule. theres also something called the helicase which unzips loose hydrogen bonds between the base pairs which then get replaced by the RNA primase and by the DNA ploymerase.
B) what does DNA do
DNA holds all of the information that programs each and every cells activity, stores our genetic instructions, has the instructions needed for an organism to develop, survive and reproduce. DNA also makes proteins.
C) how does DNA copy it self
DNA copies it’s self by something called the helicase which unzips loose hydrogen bonds between the base pairs. that then leaves two templates for new more DNA to be made from the first piece of DNA. then DNA polymerase starts at the beginning of the molecule and adds matching nuclear todds on to the main steam all the why until it reaches the molecule’s end. however, before the DNA polymerase can start adding the nuclear todds it needs something to hook on or something to start the nuclear todds. to do that, the RNA primase just adds a couple of the beginning nuclear todds so that the DNA polymerase can hook on to it. however, the lagging strand goes the opposite way so there are more steps. for example the RNA primase makes a seris of segments, or when the RNA primase leaves RNA primeres another DNA polmerase has to clear them out, and finally the fragments are then joined by the DNA ligase.
Great work posting a picture of your edible DNA with what DNA is and what DNA does. You included a complete explanation of how DNA copies itself in your own words. Good job!
