I interviewed a ballet dancer who lives in Vancouver. she dances at costal city ballet which is a ballet company that most of my ballet teachers went to. I found her on Instagram through the coastal city ballet Instagram than I DM her. I asked her to answer a few questions she said, “of course ill answer any questions you have.” i then responded with the 4 questions and she responds with “Well currently I’m an intern with theatre koblenz, Germany. I warm up 45 mins before class and take company class, then I have a couple rehearsals, and review choreo for upcoming audition with another theater. My day starts at 10 and ends at around 5/7pm depending on the day. In my spare time I’m taking care of my body (doing strengthening exercises/ stretching/ resting/ hydrating/ eating properly) sending resumes and FaceTiming family/ friends from home. i faced a few obstacles to get where i am today like disrespectful ballet teachers and choreographers. I also had a few injuries along the way, I injured my Achillies tendon and my knee. some advice i would give to a young ballerina like yourself is to not let other people’s opinion effect your dancing and the way you look at yourself. if you ever have rude teachers or fellow students just try and take what they say and change the point of view in your head and let that fuel you into a better dancer. the one thing i am the most passionate about being a ballerina is the feeling of being on stage and the all the stage lights shining on you and knowing all the sweat blood and tears you put yourself through all paid off for this beautiful moment.” I then respond with my two questions, “when and why did you start dancing” “what other styles of dance do u do other than ballet what style of dance would it be.” she responded with “i started dancing when i was around 4 just in my local rec centers before was old enough to join a studio, my mom put me in it and then i just fell in love with it. if i’m not doing ballet i’m doing contemporary because it is helpful to mourn ballet and I enjoy it.
