Week 5-Math 10

I learned more in depth how to calculate the reference angle. You do this by inversing the calculator and dividing the two numbers (given or found using SOH, CAH, TOA) to get a decimal. Then, you inverse the number and round to the nearest hundredth to get you answer for  the reference angle.

Week 1-Math 10

My day to day life is, for the most part taken up by, school, sports etc. I don’t get much time to myself but in the time I do, I like to spend it baking. I am always trying new recipes with my family and making different desserts for my friends to try. When I am baking I always use different measurements given to me through recipes. I have to calculate ounces to cups, milliliter’s to cups etc. This is one example of how math is used in my regular day to day life.

Ecology Mini Scrapbook

This bug that I chose to observe for 2-3 minutes interacted with the four spheres in different ways. It interacted with the Biosphere in the way that it is a living thing that interacts with other living things such as it eats living things such as leaves, grass and flowers. It interacts with the Hydrosphere by drinking rainwater from the sky and clouds. It interacts with the atmosphere by breathing the air produced by plants, grass, etc. It interacted with the Geosphere by consuming wood, and the litter of old leaves and grass.

Consumer:

The bird’s niche within the forest is to compete for food and a comfortable habitat. The spider’s niche within the forest is to control insect population. The bug’s niche within the forest is too

Producer:

The grass’ niche is to help produce “bridges” between forests and land and to help make a large amount of the oxygen needed in the world for animals, plants etc. The buttercup’s niche is to reproduce and produce pollen.

Decomposer:

The fungus’ niche is to help break down and decompose the dying, broken or falling organisms throughout the rest of the forest.

Which of the organisms go through photosynthesis?

The organisms that we photographed that go through photosynthesis are the buttercup and the grass.

Which organisms release energy through cellular respiration?

An example of one of the organisms that go through cellular respiration is the fungus.

How might a food web that includes a consumer that is a threatened species (in low numbers) be affected if the consumers population continues to decline?

The food web would be affected because the consumers that use it as food would not have food for themselves. The number of produces would continue to decline as the consumers declined as well.  The other species in the food web would continue to perish as the consumers died as well.

Science 9 Info Fluency-BC Housing

1) What questions did you need to research in order to create your sway?

The questions I created in order to make my sway were:

What are some previous plans BC has had for housing?

What is the current population of BC?

How does BC’s current population have an affect on BC housing?

2) What new or familiar digital tools did you try to use as you worked through this project?

A new digital tool I tried to use as I worked through this was “Gale Engage” which was a new research information tool I didn’t know existed and the “creative commons-Flickr” for photos that I also didn’t know existed.

3) What was the process you used to investigate the topic and how did you verify and cite the information you found?

The process I used to investigate the topic was to try multiple different variations of the same words into Gale Engage until it gave me information that was of value to this project. To cite my information for the most part I used the cite button that came imbedded with the site already which was very convenient and helpful.

4) How did the process of completing this challenge go? What could you have done better?

I could have done a better job of keeping on top of my time organization throughout the classes work blocks and taking advantage of the time I had. The process of completing this project for the most part was good and successful.

Letter to Honorable George Heyman

To Honorable George Heyman,

My name is Eyden Amram, and I am a student at Riverside Secondary School. I am writing to you in the hope of calling your attention to an energy issue in the province of BC, Canada. The issue at hand is the BC Housing Crisis that has been happening over the past several years as well as it is an issue currently. I have conducted research through my school project in hoping of finding the answer to my “bigger question” “What is the future of BC housing?”. I have found what I think may be some good potential options for BC’s housing future as the population continues to grow as well as the economy. One of the options I found could be getting/using more government funding to help fund non-profit organizations buy and lease/rent to people.  My hope for these options would be that families and people from more low-income or difficult situations could have more of a chance getting affordable housing in BC. I wanted to call your attention to this problem as I am interested in this issue and will continue to look/observe in the future and watch as the outcome develops. I hope this letter helps draw attention to the issue at hand and presents a somewhat reasonable option for the future BC Housing crisis.

Thank you so much,

Eyden Amram

Electric House Solution Fluency

Define- Our problems throughout this project were not too hard to find and fix. We struggled with our houses weight seeing as we had an array of wires pulling and weighing down our house at the back. We decided to fix this problem by 3D printing some weights to help hold down the front while testing. We also had an issue with our extra room (with one light) where the light blew out after we had finished all of our wiring, resulting in us having to redo the wiring and light setup.

Dream- We decided as a group that it would be best to move forward and fix the problem of the houses uneven weight by 3D printing some weights to help hold down the front while testing. To help try and solve the problem we had with the light in the extra room we decided that it would be best, so as to not waste any of our time, to have one person redo the circuit for that room while the other two members of the group move forward to move on to one of the harder parts of the project, the parallel circuit.

Deliver- To fully complete our ideas for our solutions we went ahead and printed the weights in the library, and they ended up working out perfectly, holding down the front end of the house perfectly.

(Photo of 3D printed weights and the light on the left working after circuit was changed.)

Debrief- Our final product worked very well and matched all the criteria needed. The only thing that could have been better was the fact that our wires all throughout the back of our project were very unorganized.  Everything was connected fine however we could have used straws to organize the wires more efficiently.

Independant Novel Study-Bento Box (All the Light We Cannot See)

The Bento-Box project is an interesting way of having of having students express their learning throughout the book they read. The students must choose 5 different artifacts that correlate to the book and write multiple different types of paragraphs on different topics, relating to each object.

My Core Competency reflection:

Communication:

How did you work with others to develop ideas?

During this project I worked with others to develop my ideas in a few ways. During the beginning process of the project, my group ad I worked together to help one another think of objects. We all also offered to bring in objects that another in our group may have wanted and helped circulate general ideas around. As well as when I was in the final stages of finishing my projects, with the help of the others in my group I had some help of thinking of some connection ideas, as well as some help from my teacher Ms. Shong. I overall really enjoyed this project because it is different from any other project I have ever done before.

Critical & Creative Thinking:

What aspects of this activity were challenging?

The aspects of this challenge that I found the most difficult was definitely the word count and artifact ideas. By word count I mean the number of words required in each section, I found this particularly hard in the “Writer’s Style” section. I was trying my best to find different things about the writer’s style, but I kept coming up with the same things. After taking some time, it became easier for me to think of some ideas for the “Writer’s Style”. I was also having a bit of trouble coming up with my ideas for the different objects to put with the book. My group helped me think of a few, but I was having trouble thinking up the last two. However, it became much easier after looking through my writing. A good strategy that I found helped me, was when I couldn’t think of an object, to just write even without an object. That way, the object sort of just came to me after a while. There were few challenging parts to this project but the ones that were challenging I was able to solve with a bit of help from my peers, but mostly, I was able to resolve myself.
