How do you Identify Canada and Being Canadian? Socials 10 2017

Today in class we were assigned to find two online resources which represented Canada and being Canadian in our opinion.  Here are the various media sources which I found related to our topic.

I chose this video because I believe that was very powerful and showed a precise representation of what it means to be Canadian. It displayed many of the hardships and victories that Canada has encountered as a nation throughout the centuries. They were able to accurately display all the values and ethics that Canada values as a nation, such as multiculturalism, honor and selflessness. If someone with a different cultural background was to watch this video they would perceive Canada as a very prosperous and unified country. These individuals would also notice Canada’s potential and recognize its individuality.

This next source is a link to an article which discusses Canadian acceptance compared to other countries around the world. It explains the success of Canadian multiculturalism; a society which integrates newcomers not by force but through generosity, benevolence, and sincerity to its values and principles. While reading this article I was astonished by the negativity surrounding immigrants and societies perception of them as intruders. My parents have immigrated to this country due to many political and economical reasons and we have been very grateful for the generosity that we have been offered. If a Canadian from a century ago would have seen this post I believe that they could perceive it in several different ways. Even though the concept of multiculturalism would have been foreign to them they would be proud to know the respect and integrity Canada has received on a global scale.

In conclusion Canada is a breath-taking country and I am honored to call myself a Canadian citizen.
