This week our Pre Calc class was focusing on reviewing for the test so we didn’t go over many new ideas, but what we did learn was how to determine the discriminant.
Finding the discriminant will help us determine the properties of the roots, and how many. The discriminant is found using a portion of the Quadratic Equation.
lets use as an example
we use the formula to determine what goes where
A=4 B=9 C=12
The Discriminant formula becomes
The Discriminant is 208
This will give us two distinct irrational roots, since the number is greater than zero, and also is not a perfect square.
