Through English 11, I’ve learned to look at issues with different perspectives. If it’s something I can’t relate to personally it’s better to see things from everyone’s point of view rather than focus on the one closest to me. My understanding of this was expanded when we studied the poems about identity. “50 shades of gay”, “No bikini”, “What it feels like to be transgender”, etc. Because of these poems, I also grew more aware of what happens in our society to those who are different, and it widened my view to see the parallels and contrasts between my life and experiences, and those of others in different situations. Our novel study of Fahrenheit 451 was interesting too, because of it’s commentary on how our society functions, and how we may end up if we continue on a similar path. It’s probably not a book I would have read had it not been for this class. Overall, I enjoyed this year in English 11 and I think that through my work I’ve grown to look at things differently.
