Week 4 – Math 10 – trigonometry ratios

In this week that, I was listening to my teacher’s lesson, and the one that stands out to me is the acronym – SOH CAH TOA. It is great for remembering for which sides are belonged to each ratio. And if you ever ask your parent what they remember in this unit, then it is this acronym as their lifesaver!

The SOH stands for sine ratio is equal to opposite over hypotenuse

The CAH is cosine ratio for adjacent over the hypotenuse

And last but not least is TOA, which stands for tangent ratio of opposite over the adjacent.

As you can see with my right angle of a triangle, the hypotenuse is usually the longest leg. The adjacent in Greek would mean to be beside, or where the theta is located in. The theta is the acute angle to your triangle, for you to find the other angle with your calculator. And the opposite is the side where it meets to the base. As the right angle of the triangle would help to arrow out where the sides are located in for you to solve.
