What are some initiatives\things\volunteering you have been involved with this past term? Describe what you have done, and the time you have spent.
I was Involved in a number of things this quarter. First off I would say that I was a big part of the hamper card making process. In total I helped make around 10-15 cards, after making my 5 cards that I needed to make, Abby and I worked together to make more. All together I would say I spent a little over 2 hours on the cards. I also try my best to regularly volunteer at the wave. During my spares usually on Tuesdays or Mondays I sit at the wave. It usually isn’t that busy but when in the rare occasion of a student, I have been successful in helping them with their problem. I continue to actively be a member of the social media team. I make sure to post the weekly menu with the updated foods. I am also a very active member of the rapid event email “chain”. I make sure to post things on instagram, the tv’s, and and the link tree as soon as possible. This quarter, I have been more focused on passing on my duties to younger grades. Sarah M. and I have recruited 3 grade 11’s that would replace us and our duties next year. So far they have joined the Riverside showcased Club where we have had a couple small meeting with them where we talk about small things such as what being an active social media team member looks like and other responsibilities. Sarah and I have made a detailed word document which lists all of our responsibilities and small things to keep in mind, we are planning on sharing the document with them soon and meeting with them to go over everything more detailed as well as getting them to join tech team.
What are some things you have learned?
Using the Cricut for the hamper card making process despite the fact that I had already learnt how to use the Cricut once, the cards were a bit more complex as I needed to learn how to layer 2 papers, but once I circuited a couple cards I got the hang of it and things went better. This quarter specifically I think that I have completely settled into being a tech team member. Firstly, I have learnt just about all the basics in the makerspace (3d printer, Cricut, and buttons). Now when students come into the library with questions I am more confident in my responses and ability to help them.
What are some of the challenges, aha moments, small wins…you experienced?
One challenge that I experienced was using the Cricut initially because I had only used it to cut out stickers but not paper, I learnt a couple things along the way such as needing to adjust the settings before cutting to match the paper type. I was really happy with my success because now I am able to confidently use the Cricut outside of tech team such as in leadership.
Core Competency
Focussing on the specific competency (Communication)
What are your specific strengths?
I think communication is one of my greatest strengths, ever since I took on the responsibility of social media, I’ve come to understand how important that clear communication is, for success and to avoid misunderstandings. When teachers or other peers request to post something I always make sure to be specific with what they want posted in aspects such as when they want it posted, how, what they want included on the caption and more.
What are some specific stretches, areas for growth, What are some goal to grow in this area?
A goal I have in communication is to be more forward. What that means for me is to be more forward towards other students. For example if I notice that a student is struggling with something I would like to be that person who offers them help instead of sitting off to the side. Another area of growth I have is to communicate with different grades. I noticed that I communicate a lot with either teachers or senior students but not younger grades.
