Indigenous Exploration Project- “Residential Schools” The Mohawk Institute
Reflection
This was the first time I have ever created a podcast with a group. I made a podcast on my own, and I found it easier because I only had my opinions and thoughts to follow, but with a group, I had to be more cooperative and communicate more. It was an interesting experience, in the best way.
My group and I each chose a topic about The Mohawk Institute Residential School. We went to the library to discuss how we can research. For example, what sources we can use, which was using the learning resources in destiny discover which is found in the library on the Riverside homepage. After, my group and I decided who researched about what. After researching, we made our script, writing our own, and writing what someone else has to say for a conversation.
Once we finished including our notes on the script, we spoke and timed ourselves. First, we got at almost 6 minutes, which wasn’t our goal. So we talked slower, and we got at almost 7, which was a good time. The next day we worked on it, we recorded 3 times, and used the last recording for our podcast. The obstacle for me was having to talk. I don’t like talking, but I had to. I also had to talk slow. I don’t mind talking slow, but it was weird. I learned that how fast or slow I spoke can impact the time of the recording. I already knew it, but it’s important to keep that in mind when recording a podcast.
The core competency I will be reflecting on is Communication. The ways my group and I communicated was by talking orally, and online using a shared word document to write our notes and script. The things we talked about included who is researching what, and questions when we don’t get something or if someone looks like they need help. We gave each other our numbers but we didn’t text much. I think that a shared word document is also a form of communicating, because that way we could see how each of us are doing, and then are able to give feedbacks or assistance. We didn’t do everything individually and helped each other.
