March10

This is me, Raiah, and Moiya’s Podcast on Anahim Lake Dormitory where we talk about its history and impacts.

My experience throughout the project

My experience throughout the project was very straight-forward and it worked out how I expected it. We made sure all the research was done before we went on to write the script and that the recording was at least 6 minutes long.  I would say I enjoyed the podcasting part because it was very new to me to work with the microphone. It was also very fun to record the podcast because it’s not something I do in school often.

My group’s path in researching the topic

During the first day of research, my group had made a mistake because we didn’t communicate what school to do the research on since there were certain absences in my group. As a result, Raiah and I did our own research on different schools. I did my research on Christie Roman School, she did hers on Anahi Lake Dormitory. On the second day of research, my group decided on doing Anahi Lake Dormitory as our topic. I decided to use google instead of the library catalogs as it was challenging on finding the specific school on there. By the third day, we had already started writing the script.
On the making of the script, we helped each other write everything. I intended on expanding the research to put on the script. Raiah helped distributing the lines and putting it in colour code. Moiya helped editing the script. It was challenging to expand our script because we knew it had to be a certain length to be at least 6 minutes.

Obstacles we learnt during the recording

There were some obstacles we faced while recording. My group was challenged with the podcast recording because it was hard to not be distracted. During the recording our group learnt to speak clear and at a good pace because this way our voices would be heard more. Another challenge was that we had to make sure that each and everyone of us was heard well and not one was louder than the other. Also, we had to speak at a serious tone which was hard at most parts because my group and I tend to laugh at wrong times. We tried to do as little takes as possible because the audio would not sound very thorough and smooth. Our group was very picky on choosing the right music because the songs from bensounds were either too sorrow or jolly. I ended up editing the audio clips since I was familiar with Audacity.

Critical Thinking Reflection

I used my critical thinking skills to solve and suggest ways to solve the problems we faced while writing and recording. For example, my group didn’t really know how to use Audacity, so I had to step in and figure out how to edit and such. This assignment changed my thinking because normally in previous projects on Residential Schools, I remember only researching about it’s negative history. But on this project I had to expand my learning and research on how Indigenous people are still being effected present day.

Thank you for posting your “Indigenous Exploration” audio project (podcast). As the assignment was completed for both English 9 and COL, I have the following feedback for you on the post:

    – All elements of the assignment’s post were well done and properly uploaded
    – Reflection on blog does a fairly good job explaining process taken to complete the assignment
    – Clear audio quality and delivery, background music could be turned down even more
    – Music in background could have been selected without the BENSOUND.com watermark on it, lots of free options to have picked from
    – Podcast is well done

Overall, this assignment was well done. If you have any questions, please let me know.

    Thank you!

    Mr. Barazzuol
    COL Teacher
