My Reflection:
Give three reasons why you would like this job?
(Me personally, I have assisted my dad in his job a few times by cleaning and calibrating the instruments at home and in the lab.)
- I like the quiet atmosphere from this job because busy and loud work atmospheres stress me out.
- I like how the instruments calibrated are used in hospitals and research laboratories.
- I would like the idea of travelling to other places outside of B.C for this job.
Give three reasons why you would dislike this job?
- I don’t like how some of the things you do is repetitive because I was basically doing the same things over and over again. Like for cleaning the instruments, the process is taking it apart, spraying alcohol, drying, putting grease, fixing it back together. I’m not complaining but it’s just not exciting when you do it for a long time.
- This job requires a lot of patience but, I’m not the most patient person. I remember feeling quite frustrated when calibrating the instruments because the weight would always be inconsistent most of the time.
- I would not like the idea of carrying these heavy suitcases my dad always brings to work, which has all the calibration supplies in it.
Is this job for you?
If I have to be honest, this job is not for me. A main reason would be because it doesn’t really interest me. I would want a job that does a variety of different things in working hours instead of doing the same two or three things. Another reason is having to travel a lot, (almost monthly). I can imagine travelling by myself being exhausting and lonely. My other reason why this job isn’t for me is because it really does require a lot of patience. I have a hard time being patient with things like calibrating instruments that often changes the readings.
Explain the value of the TOKTW experience in relation to your ideas about your post secondary (after highschool) plans (education? training? work?)
The TOKTW day gave me ideas of what kind of job or career path I’m interested in (whether its the working conditions, job duties, or payment). Although, I’m actually still deciding, I definitely want a job that I’m passionate for and is a job that helps or makes a difference by a lot to people.
