Tech Team Quarter 2 Reflection + Critical Thinking

This quarter while I mainly focused on university applications, I also ran the spoken word livestream, and helped at the spirit assembly and Christmas cards.

My activities this term has helped me improve my ability in time management and patience. Working with the spoken word livestream, I had to arrange to test equipment ahead of time. Working with people from multiple different departments, I communicated clearly my progress and goals.

I found there are always changes that can be applied even in the middle of an event. During Spoken Words, I found that internet speed was occasionally an issue. We were then able to find an ethernet port and adapter connecting to ethernet, improving the quality of our livestream.

I can reflect and assess my work to identify potential problems and solutions. This was demonstrated in the initial testing stages of the spoken word livestream. I identified problems by taking the whole set up and separating them into small pieces. This allowed to be pick out what I needed to replace. I then assess how different solutions fit in to our situation and finalized a decision based on weighting the pros and cons.

Tech Team Quarter 1 Reflection – Eric

Some things I have been involved with were helping with the Grade 9 Bootcamp in the beginning of the year. I helped with the Edublog station during which I made sure students were able to get their blogs working. I also spent time in the wave and helped any students that would come with tech issues. Along with working the sound system for school assemblies. For the Cricut assignment I made a League of Legends sticker and for the pumpkin contest I helped 2 grade 9s learn how to use the Cricut when designing Pumpjo Satokin.

I have improved on my communication skills by clearly talking about action plans and scheduling ahead of time. This at the same time shows off my strength in being able to make a realist and elaborate plan to achieve a result I want.

One challenge I’ve had is learning how to use the Cricut machine. Since I haven’t used the Cricut a lot of time it was  difficult using the tools to remove and attach the sticker as my hand eye coordination is below average. I can definitely work more on hands on activities, while I am quite confident in working with technicalities I have always had trouble doing rough work. This is something I would like to improve in order to be able to work more independently.

In the coming months I would first like to make sure that spoken word runs smoothly, I have already booked a time to test out the equipment. With this I would like to teach some juniors how to use the soundboard for both assemblies and spoken word.

Tech team – CRICUT | LOGO + STICKERS – Eric He

I wanted to make a League of Legends logo as the world championship is happening right now and this game has been a huge part of my life.

A challenging part was working out a design, because the actual logo is muti-colored with gradients and other aspects which are difficult for the Cricut.

What worked well is actually the exact thing that went wrong, finding the shiny gold color works very well with the logo in this design. All the other process of working using the Cricut also went pretty well since others were there to help me when I didn’t understand what to do.

I learned just because something didn’t turn out the exact way I wanted it to that doesn’t mean it can’t turn out amazing. Finding alternate solutions would be an amazing skill to have in terms of not being wasteful and letting opportunity past by.
