Tech Team Quarter 4 Reflection – Eric H

In this semester, I worked as a tech team member on the spirit and First Nations assembly, spoken word recording and athletic banquet. I worked on the sound system for the assemblies and athletic banquet helping with set up and take down. For the spoken word I set up the live stream. I was also involved with the spirit triathlon, acting as a deep water life guard and many other swimming events.

Something I learned this semester is troubleshooting by steps and looking for alterative solutions. An effective strategy when you don’t know what is wrong is to start from the source and test each part in a closed environment. My strength is being able to look for ways to ensure that the part I am testing is the only variable object.

The biggest challenge was the spoken word where I had many difficulties setting up and camera and audio. I think something that I can really work on is taking bigger “risks” because I’m always afraid to change too much such as in the case of the live stream. I was afraid to move the whole set up even though the previous set up was not working. By taking these risks I can strive to achieve a better product.

During the summer, I would like to start on some projects using AI, building programs and a portfolio which might help me in applying for universities in the science field. I would like to make a program that is useful to at least myself and be proud of it.

Tech Team Quarter 3 Reflection

Even though semester 3 has been a busy time for me I was still able to find opportunities for volunteering and leadership activities. Somethings I did this semester includes completing the TinkerCad assignment, attending the SLC leadership summit meeting and assisting with the leadership escape room.

The most important things I’ve learned is working with TinkerCad I had “aha” moments while moving around in the user interface and this is a skill that can benefit me later on. I had also learned about the SD43 SLC (Student leadership council). My biggest strength shown this semester is my ability to provide meaningful and constructive feedback. I was able to demonstrate this when providing feedback for the leadership escape room project.

A stretch and something I would like to do later on is to build and run a leadership project as opposed to simply participating or helping in a leadership role.

Reflection:

In this project I went into TinkerCad and found a 3D design tutorial which I turned my own after.

The most challenging part of the design was moving around the design space. Due to being quite new to TinkerCad I found it really difficult and time consuming to move into the angle I wanted to look at my object.

On the other hand I loved using the measurement system that TinkerCad provided it was really easy to understand and make sure that my project was exactly how I wanted it.

With this project I learned a lot about TinkerCad, most importantly I was able to familiarize myself with TinkerCad’s interface making any future projects I do on TinkerCad a lot faster.

Tech Team Button Creation

I had only used both the Cricut and the button maker 1 time before creating my button, so naturally I had some challenges with just knowing how to do this. Luckily, Ms. Leung was able to help me in steps where I did not have a clear understanding of what I was doing.

On the contrary, I thought the design process went really well and I was very pleased with how my button ended up turning out. I found the design space to be very intuitive and easy to work with.

Most important thing I learned through this experience is refining my competencies in using the Cricut and the button maker. These skills lets me help out any fellow rapids wanting to use the Cricut/button maker as well as myself if I ever want to create something.

Tech Team – Semester 1 – Reflection

During this term I have continued with Peer tutoring every Tuesday and various leadership activities such as organizing lunch time events, volunteering for the staff children Christmas party, best buddies, and little buddies. I also conducted the stream on Youtube for Spoken words. And in the following week I will be helping with COL support, grade 8 walkabout, and grade 8 parent information night.

The most important thing I’ve learned/developed further is streaming videos. Since I have used OBS for various reason before I had experience, however there were still many challenges mainly connecting cables, 1 interesting challenge I had was literally just forgetting to power on the Elgato. I learned that detailed instructions are very important because instructions that don’t make sense are worst than no instructions at all.

For my workshop I would really like to teach some people how to work with the streaming hardware in more detail. With this I have a vision of school events like music concerts to be streamed on Youtube making them accessible to all rapids or even just make them unlisted for friends and family. Other than that with this semester over I have a lot more academic courses than leadership courses meaning I will have more time to work on projects of my choice, which includes tackling the Tinkercad assignment and working with programming languages like python more

Tech Team Q1 Reflection

In this past term I have worked a lot with events with in our school including setting up the assembly and playing for the band during the Terry Fox run, running the audio for the Truth and reconciliation assembly, volunteering with the Canadian university event, participating and organizing Halloween events. In many of the events I act as a link from the Tech team to Leadership setting up contest forms, documents, audio and visuals. In addition to working on events for Tech team and Leadership I have also spent a portion of my free time doing peer tutoring, after schools on Tuesdays and on occasion I would tutor someone who has asked me to help them on my own time.

Something important that I’ve learned this quarter is how to use the Cricut. For the Halloween pumpkin contest me and Marcus used the Cricut Machine to print off buttons, eyes, and glasses for our snowman design. Using the Cricut was actually surprisingly fun, watching the Cricut cut out your work is a treat.

I would say that my biggest strength is my ability, willingness and open mind towards learning in general. No matter the obstacle I am always willing to learn something new, and generally I’m quite fast at picking up a random skill. However, a big challenge for me right now is time management. I currently have many different events and tasks I have to juggle between. Therefore, even though I do not have terrible time management, it is a skill I would like to perfect more.

Something I would like to try to do more of in the near future is coding, not only do I have a computer programming class next semester, it is also the major I plan to go in for university. It would be even better if I could find a way to make some sort of program to help out the school. I’m currently thinking about making a helps website for Riverside where if you have any questions about anything in Riverside going onto the website will tell you the solution/where to go.
