Visual Patterns
HCE 9 – English Write
In this photograph the mood has changed from the right side of the photo to the left. Not just because of the color change but also the children’s expressions. They look like there in their traditional clothing and all happy on the right side but on the left they’ve been changed and deculturized. This could have been what it looked like before and after residential schools. The side with the colors might be showing inclusivity, respect and collaboration while the other colorless side doesn’t. It shows how they were forcibly separated from there families and not allowed to live there own culture or speak there own languages. Many peoples traditions and identities looks as if it was stripped away.

Podcast Reflection
While doing this podcast it made me more aware of the issues surrounding first nations health. We should be discussing about the importance of advocating for better access for healthcare, therapy, cleaner water, better living conditions, cheaper and more food, etc. I noticed how important it is to recognize the struggles and work toward achieving health and equality for all. We need to raise more awareness for indigenous mental health because it will make a positive change. Many first nations don’t have the help they need with not only physical health but also mental health and that can lead to many downfalls on everyone in the first nations community. I think we should also be supporting more of their culture and listening to their experiences and perspectives. Education is a big role too, so promoting an inclusive acceptable society will create better outcomes for everyone. I think me and Marina work very well together. Using the websites that the librarian gave us really helped with our research. I used creative thinking while doing this project because I’ve learnt about first nations pretty much every year of my life so I know lots already. I also really enjoy doing podcasts better than writing so this was fun for me. In conclusion I think we need to focus on this topic more and not take the things we may think are little for granted because they are a big thing for others.
Unit 1 Summary
Electric House ADL
- A problem with our house was with the battery. It was sitting on top of the house with nothing to support it and it kept falling down. We needed something to support it and keep it staying down. We needed something that would keep it in place, something the fits it properly and something that we could still be able to connect the wires too.
- Another idea we could’ve used if we didn’t have the 3D printer was hot glue, tape, build something out of cardboard, we could’ve even hid it under the bed and make holes through the back of the house to make it look even cooler.
- We built a 3D printed battery holder. First we went to tinker cad and started a new design. We picked rectangles and shaped them into what we needed. We then measured them to fit the battery and made sure it was ready to 3D print. Then we printed it!
- First we worked on the layout of the house and all went smooth with that considering it was just three rooms. Then we did the flooring of the house where we designed floors for each room with paper with was super simple and fast. Then we did the elevator so there was a realistic way to get to the second floor and that was pretty easy just needed a bit of measuring. Then we did the wires which was probably the hardest part. It was hard to get lights from both floors connected to the same battery. We managed to get them all to work though. After was the fun part, designing. Every group member did really good on this part. We designed as much as we could top to bottom and even did as much as small reading glasses on shelfs and a toilet paper roll with a staple and paper. The process overall had some ups and downs but we worked together and tried again to fix the mistake and it ended up good.
