Have you ever been filled with so much excitement that your body is physically shaking? If your favourite singer was performing right in front of you, I think you would be too. Earlier this year, on April 25th, my best friend Madi and I got to go see the Weeknd perform at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. We had both gotten tickets for Christmas and were so excited to go to another concert of his.
Finally, the day of the concert came. We arrived at Rogers Arena at around 7pm, then waited in line to enter the stadium. As soon as we got in, we looked for our seat section. It was so crowded with people, it was hard to move. While we slowly made our way down the hall, we passed dozens of food carts and shops. The smell of nachos, hotdogs and fried foods filled the air. Finally, we reached our section. Madi and I climbed the stairs and showed the security guard our tickets. He brought us to our seats which were one level up from the floor and quite close to the stage. By now the stadium had filled up quite a bit. Shortly after we sat down, the first opening act started to play. The lights dimmed and 6lack came out to performed. After him it was Belly, then Rae Sremmurd. Madi and I looked at each other and screamed. We knew every one of their songs. I don’t think I’ve ever sang that loud in my life at a concert, and that wasn’t even the main performance.
After Rae Sremmurd had come and gone, it was time for the moment we had all been waiting for. Suddenly the whole arena went dark and music started to play, but there was still no sign of the Weeknd. All of a sudden, a huge spaceship-like flat that was suspended up in the air lit up and fog started to flow out of the runway. Then the crowd went absolutely insane as his silhouette appeared in the flashing lights. It was time, The Weeknd was right in front of us. Madi and I were so excited that we were jumping up and down. He started to sing his first song and the crowd got even louder. We screamed so loud that I could already feel myself losing my voice. I never wanted it to end. It was such an amazing feeling knowing that my favourite singer in the whole world was this close to me, right in front of my eyes.
The night had gone by so fast. Before we knew it, he was already on to singing his last song. At the end of the last song, the arena was deafening, no one would stop cheering. I will never forget that amazing night. It was the best concert I’d ever been to and one of the best days of my life.
