Photos-001

I’ve finished painting!

I now have to paint the top layer with clear overcoat which shouldnt be excessively hard to do, and then hopefully it’ll get fired quickly and I can quickly take pictures of it, and turn in the assignment. I really do like my coil pot and so I’m hoping that the colors will stay and then they wont change too much with the newest coat. I have lots of different colors on the pot so i’m hoping they dont get mushed together in some way or look bad next to each other because of the change in colors. Because right now they all work very well together.

Inquiry 3

I have a new idea for inquiry! I want to make a snake (made of clay). It’d be really fun to make a somewhat small snake with scales and maybe a rattle at the end etc. It doesnt have to be food safe so i can paint it with acrylic paint, but id really like to have it shiny but maybe theres a way to do it without overglaze? The reason why Im not just immediately thinking to use underglaze and then a clear overglaze the underglazes dont have too many colors and I feel like to make it the colors of green I want, I would need several different shades of green with a bit of blue, and there isnt too many shades of green here. Maybe i could buy some small bottles myself? I’m really excited by the idea of it working and I have a pretty clear picture in my head of what id want it to look like so Im hoping I can find a way to make this work. Here’s some inspiration pictures!

Inquiry 2

I’ve decided to abandon my original idea of making a second coil pot because it’s been so difficult to keep it looking the way i want it to and it not falling on me. So i’ve instead decided to take a completetely different route and make an acrylic painting! I made it without any instructional video or much experience with paint so im honestly quite proud o it! I really like paintings that paint a landscape/nature so I made some mountains in the background with a big grassy feild and some trees on some rocks at the very forefront of the picture. My presentation was on Value and I actually used a lot of my knowledge from the assignement on this painitng! I would mix tiny bits of blacks to colors to add more depth to the painting (especially the mountains) and I had lots of fun painting the trees because i used a style I had never personally seen used to draw evergreens! I’m really happy with the way the rocks turned out (they’re at the bottom left of the painting).

Inquiry 1

I’ve been trying to make a coil pot with almost bridge like ropes of clay at the bottom but sadly its not working out very well. They cant stay stable enough to support anything on top of it or even to properly stand on its own! I’m trying to find an alternative way but it doesnt seem the be working at all. When i put in back in the cubbies for the night, and cover it in a wet paper towl to allow myself to keep working on it, the next day when i check on it they’ve basically collapsed. So it cant stay dry enough to keep it’s shape and wet enough to keep adding things to it at the same time which makes it almost impossible to do.

Studio Art 3

Today, I did the final underglaze painting session! I fixed the braided ring’s color and made it much nicer, or at least i personally think it’s better. I marked my initials (EB) on the bottom of it and I’m pretty happy with it! Hopefully tonight it’ll be fired and then i can add clear overglaze and have a nice finished project. The braided layer seemed to kind of mush together with the underglaze so it doesnt look very braided anymore because it was thin strnads but hopefully you’ll still be able to tell that it is infact braided. here’s a picture of my coil pot on the low temperature tray!

Studio Art 2

Today in Studio Art class i continued painting my coil pot, and i decided to use a very pretty purple-ish brown-ish color for the top ring. After i painted it, i wanted to use more of it cause i still had some left and i wouldnt want to be wasteful so i decided to also paint the inside of the coil pot of its entierty the same purple-ish color. Then i STILL wanted more of it so i painted one more of the bottom rings that i had previously made the failed blue color into purple but since it was such a dark color under it, the color didnt look the same. But im still happy with it cause i much prefer it to the 3 consecutive layers of blue! Finally I changed the bottom layer’s color to the same light blue as the second to top layer.

Last week in Art Studio 10

Last week I started painiting my coil pot and it was quite the process because at the start I was thinking I would paint it all one color (blue) but im blue/green colorblind and so there were quite a few shades of green and blue and I couldnt tell which ones were blue. So in the end I just chose whichever one I thought looked the nicest and it was probably green but I dont care too deeply about it. But then the paint i chose ended up being a really strange texture! It would clump up and wasnt fun to look at. So i stopped using that paint and therfore had to use a different color, and then i kept using different colors. So now it’s a strange mix of random colors on different layers and i think im going to end up painting most layers different colors with no specific pattern. Im hoping itll turn out nice and i still have somehwhat high hopes for it!
