Define:
The problem in Matter Matters is that the concepts in section 1.2 are difficult to understand/ comprehend. There is a lot of information shared in section 1.2 and it might be hard to understand because it’s not something we talk about in our everyday lives. It covers many topics such as; chemical changes, changes of state, particle model of matter, kinetic molecular theory, kinetic molecular theory and changes of state, temperature and changes of state, describing matter, and pure substances. My challenge is to share and explain this information in an engaging way.
Dream:
- puppet show – record a video of a sock puppet show where you explain the topics covered in section 1.2 using funny characters and engaging personalities
- movie/ video – record a video of yourself talking about the topics covered in section 1.2 and maybe include a demonstration/ lab
- music video – write and preform a catchy song that covers the topics in section 1.2
- game on Scratch – create an interactive game to teach section 1.2 in an engaging way
- demonstration – video tape or take photos of science lab in which you show change of state, chemical change, pure substances, temperature and changes of state, and kinetic molecular theory by using household objects to make the concepts easier to understand
- stop motion video – use clay and other mediums to create a stop motion video and demonstrate the topics covered in section 1.2
Design and Deliver:
format – stop motion video
Debrief:
I had fun making my stop motion video. It took longer than I expected to make my video because it was the first time I had ever made a stop motion video so I didn’t really have an estimate on how much time it would take to make. One thing that worked well for me was that I had all of my ideas planned out before I started making my video. I had a solid plan of what information I wanted to show and I had all of my information in order, so that really helped me get my video made faster. One of the challenges that I ran into was learning to use the app (stop motion studio) because I had never used this app before so I had to problem solve as I did my project (example – I found out halfway through my project that I could only make the videos 5 minutes long so I had to make multiple videos), I think if I were to do this project again I would want to do some tests with the app first and learn how to use it before I start my project. One thing that I think I could have done better was reading over all of the information and trying to condense it a bit instead of sharing the information in the order the text book did. In the text book they have all of the information spread out over a section, and there is a lot of information. I think it would have been better for my video if I had tried to compact the information more than I did so my videos wouldn’t be as long. Overall I had lots of fun making this project!

I love the creativity you used here. Things like using yarn-like material as a gas, the marble moving along the pencil crayons, the eye ball. I also appreciated that you cited your picture sources. Great work sharing detailed information in an engaging way with your stop motion videos. I am glad that you were able to embed them as it makes for an excellent blog post. Amazing!

Great videos! Very detailed and easy to understand. I really liked how creative you were with the materials you used, they really helped to explain the concepts better. I can tell you put hard work into this, really outstanding work!
