HCE 9 – English Write

“Trash Turtle”

In the photo Trash Turtle by Stefan Kraft you can see the turtle being used as a trash can. My first impression of the image was pure sadness as unfortunately, this is what our earth has come to.  The image shows us pollution in the ocean and how sea creatures are swallowing plastic and other garbage becoming literal garbage cans and eventually dying. The theme I choose is collaboration as I believe if everyone were to work together we could start to prevent this and find alternative ways to recycle. The background of the image is the ocean and it gets darker the lower it goes I think the darkness represents the awful situation with pollution but as it goes up it starts to lighten possibly meaning there is still hope to fix this if we collaborate and work together to fix this. The turtle looks visibly uncomfortable and it’s staring directly into the viewer’s eyes almost like it is reaching out for help. On the shell of the turtle, you see a symbol of a man throwing away trash just like you would see on an actual garbage can showing that these creatures are becoming actual garbage cans. The turtle is just floating around looking extremely depressed. Pollution is a very serious ongoing issue it has a huge impact on marine life including the fish the humans eat can get affected. The marine life will often mistake garbage such as food wrappers, plastic bags, and fishing gear the artist is most likely showing tats how the turtle managed to get all the plastic inside of him. Overall pollution is a horrible thing and the artist is bringing awareness.

Social Issue Topic – On-Reserve Schools

– Your experiences creating this assignment.

Our group’s overall experience I would say was good and definitely a learning experience. I learned how to find good helpful information we also learned how to record our own podcasts using Audacity. I had fun with this assignment because it was different and unlike something I’ve ever done before.

– Your group’s path in researching the topic.

Our group went through lots of struggles with researching we thought we had enough information but we didn’t so we had to go back and find new information. I found it quite hard to find new information about on-reserve schools I believe this is because there is not enough attention going into it because many people are unaware.

– Obstacles or items you learned in recording

We went through many obstacles through out the process of recording at first we were struggling with sound issues and how loud we should be speaking. Towards the end we realized we didn’t have enough information for the desired time limit but we pushed through by taking time out side of class time to find more information till we got within the time limit.

Critical Thinking … How does your artifact (audio recording) tie in with what you have learned before? How has your thinking changed? What made it change?

Before starting this assignment I knew very little about how life is at reserve schools. I knew only indigenous people could attend the schools but I was unaware how difficult it was for them.  For example I didn’t know they had such a low graduate rate.  My thinking has changed drastically about on reserve schools because of how unaware I was and learning all these new things really opened my eyes on how difficult this is for them and that not much attention is going towards it.

Write Your Name Math 9 2023

I found the letter M tough to graph because I had to make a slop and it was hard to connect them. I started by using the first letter of my name and then going through them until I finished. I used the domain the most because that’s the way i needed most lines to face. I used linear equations the most because it seems the most simple.
