Week 17 – June 20 2025 – monster mug – inquiry project

Artist statement:

As i have said before i love the ocean and sea so much. I think it’s so fun to make artwork that resonates with you and what you love. I wanted to make a turtle since they actually have a very low chance of survival when they are young due to birds eating them when they are trying to get to the water. I wanted to spread awareness to turtles with my art. For the shell i wanted to show how beautiful things can be even tho they are small. The beach is made from so many of these but and each and everyone is beautiful  and unique. I used the sea glass for my turtle since lots of glass is found in the sea and washed up on shore. I am reusing and reducing. I added sand for the shell to add more realism to the turtle that is trying to get to the ocean. For the shell i added pearls since that is what is on the inside of shells. I also added some white rocks to add more depth and since at some beautiful beaches they have white sand/rocks. I also wanted my art work to have sensory aspects. Since we did that patch work for blind and deaf i thought it would be important to add touch aspects to my work so that everyone can experience and explore my art work no matter who they are.

I got ride of my other inquiry assignment since i kept braking and just made this one more detailed since i didn’t have time to make something from scratch.

Final project for monster mug:

this is some progress photos of my inquiry project and how i hand painted each piece of sea glass from clue to green. Took sooo long.

My injury project broke again so i just decided to scrap. I had had a lot of ups and downs with this project and it just kept cracking or breaking for some reason.

 

This is my mug after the glaze fire but it was uneven in some parts so i decided to glaze it again and fix it.

Review:

This week i got lots of work done and i am pretty proud of myself since we only have a little bit more time to work on it. I had to go through one big struggle this week and that was that my handle on my monster mug broke off and i had to make a plan for what i was going to do next. I was really sad that this happened because i worked so harm on it but i didn’t want this to put a damper on my work so i kept going. I sanded the cup down so that there were no bumps from where the handle was. Then i got back on track and under-glazed it.

goal:

My goal fro next week is to get my berry bowl to the point were it is dry and has under glaze ready to be bisk fired. I also want to finish my turtle and shell next week. I hope nothing bad happens to stunt my work because i am putting a lot of effort in my work.

Week 15 – May 30th 2025

Triptych Artist Statement:

I really like the ocean and all the creatures within it and wanted to make that my general theme. Most people don’t get to take a look under the surface of the water and with this Triptych you get to see all the levels down to the ocean floor. You get to see the creatures that live at these levels which gives you a bit of education and learning while looking at it.

I didn’t want it to just look like i carved into the title I wanted it to have small details that drive you closer to the title and take you look longer look. There is depth in the work within the carving. I also want the audience to see how long i worked on this and the effort i put into it. When you see them all together i want you to see the different art styles and how each one if different but when put together shows each others beauty. For my particular style i just went with what ever came to my head. I wanted it to be 100% authentic to myself. I used photos of turtles to help me but really just took creative freedom and ran with it.

Inquiry Term-long Project (Purpose)

My big idea is to make decorations to go in my room. I want my room theme to be sea creatures and the beach so i think it would fun to make things to go on my walls and desk so that it saves money.

Like I said I want to make some of these things so that i could put them in my room to make it more beachy. I also want to make them because i just like making things that are ocean themed. I do have one top in here that i want to make since i think it would be fun to make my own clothes. I have most of these materials but will have to go get some of them.

Challenges:

some challenges i might have are getting materials. I am not sure if sea glass is easy to get or not but i need that so it might be a struggle to get. I think amazon will be helpful and some materials might also be in this class already which is always helpful.

 

Week 14 – May 23rd 2025 – monster mug

The piece of art work I was really drawn towards at the art exhibit was called Robot Girl by my friend Megan Antosh.

She used texture since all the wires in the piece are hand sewn. You can feel the groves and bumps from the tread which is a different texture than the painting itself. She also used value. You can see this on the knees. The robot skin toon gets a little reder in scale to the rest of her body. This is also show on her feet and elbows. This creates the illusion that the robot girl is stuck in almost a box and trying to get out. The red parts are the parts of her body that are strained from pushing to get out which also shows movement. There’s also value on the bandages around the robot going from white to grey. There is also shape in the artwork. The eyes, eyebrows, mouth, bandages, and robot parts are all made out of shapes.

I think the meaning the artist was trying to portray was self-identity, and dehumanization. The art shows mechanical parts replacing or repairing human limbs which might suggest the pressure of modern society and how technology reshapes our identities. You feel like you are stuck in a box and try to get out but it’s too late because you already altered yourself to fit in.

the piece envokes a mix of frustration and discomfort in me. I made me reflect on how much of ourselves are becoming mechanized. How technology is often stitched into our lives without consent to full awareness. It provokes empathy for the subject while also trying to understand the back story.

Clay stamp:

Week 13 – May 16th 2025 – monster mug – clay stamp

Review:

This week i have been working on my monster mug again and it’s almost finished! This thing has taken me a lot of time and effort because i really want it to look good. I also finished my design of my clay stamp and will be printing it out next week. I feel good about my work this week but really want to work faster because i get to get onto my inquiry project and running out of time.

Goal: Finish building my mug and get it to be bisk fired for next week

Week 11 – May 2nd 2025 – Monster Mug

Review:

This week I worked on my monster mug. This means i did my idealtions, concept drawings and started to build my mug. The work is ok right now I haven’t had a lot of time to work on it since i have to do other work but i will hopefully finish next week. I got help from my friends to decide what design i should go for which really helped.

Goal:

My goal for next week is to finish building my monster mug and get to bisk fire it possibly.

Week 10 – April 24th 2025 – Sgrafitto Tile Assignment – Monster Mug

Review:

This week because my tile wasn’t bisk fired I decided to make a few changes to it and add more details/ carve more. Now i feel even better about my art. I also started working on my ideations and concept drawing for the monster mug.

Goal

My goal for next week is to start on my monster mug. Right now i am starting the ideations and concept drawing so i think that i will be able to start on clay next week.

Week 9 – April 17th 2025 – Sgrafitto Tile Assignment

Review

This week i worked on my tile assignment and was able to finish it. I am very impressed and happy with how it turned out and can’t wait to see it actually bisk fired. I tryed to make it as detailed as i could and think that i was able to make my concept drawing come to life.

Goal

My goal is to get it bisk fired so i can see how it looks completely finished.

 

Week 8 – April 4th 2025 – Sgrafitto Tile Assignment

Purpose:

Negative space, positive space, and line

Positive space is the subject or area of interest in an art peace. For my ideations the positive space is mostly the sea creatures or sea shells. Negative space is the background of the area that surrounds the subject. For my ideations the negative space is mostly the sand or sea floor or the rest of the ocean in my waves. For lines my whole work is made out of lines especially in the waves and the jelly fish and the sea life.

 

Week 7 – March 14th 2025 – Natural World Assignment and Sgrafitto Tile Assignment

Review: I have finally finished my project which I am extremely proud of because I put so much effort into it and spent a lot of my time outside of school as well as inside class. It took awhile since I had to wait for things to dry and I had to cut each individual circle and glue everything and make the structure. Like a lot of time went into it even if it doesn’t look like it.

Artist statement:

I have a great appreciation for our nature and some aspect of it that draws me in is the ocean and the life that lives in it. I wanted to do a whale shark since they are endangered and are such amazing animals. I first learnt about them in  the movie dory and thought that the whale shark in it was so cute and loved the character. I want to use my piece as a wall decoration in my room since I want my room to be sea themed so I wanted to adding the aspect of usefulness to this project because i think that’s really important. I added the aspect of helping wild life by adding recycled paper that I made because it always better to reuse things to save our environment. Then I also added shells to show the sea themed and using what is in the environment of the whale shark. Then I also added materials that show the dark since of humans and what he can do to our oceans. We use too much plastic and that often gets into the ocean going into the sea life’s bodies. I added plastic lines on the whale shark and plastic beads since that is what can be in them and in the ocean that causes them harm. The elements and principles I used in this assignment is shapes since the whole thing comes together using circles. I also used lines since I then sectioned off my art using white lines. I used movement since the tale is curved meaning it is moving. I used texture since you can feel all the different things I added to my project Like the pearls contrasting with the paper. Some people don’t even know what whale sharks are so I want people to know that and then this will entice them to look up what a whale shark is when they seen my art and then want to help since they would find out they are endangered.

Week 6 – March 7th 2025 – Natural World Assignment

Review: this week was good I haven’t finished my Assignment yet because it has been taking a lot longer than I had originally planned but that’s ok. I really like working on this assignment since I like what I am making and get to add fun elements to it. This week I am proud of my work and think I am on the right track to finish ping this assignment using all my time and resources.

Goals: my goal for next week is to finish my assignment before spring break since I don’t want to have to do it when I could be relaxing and doing anything but thinking about school.

Week 5 – February 27th 2025 – Natural World Assignment

Review:

This week was really productive and i am about half way done my project! It’s going well and i am proud of what i have done so far. Working with hot glue is really annoying being i keep burning myself and it doesn’t like to stay in place well. So the hot glue was my struggle of the week. But with all that being said it hasn’t hindered my ability to get this project done and to stay on track with good time management.

 

Goal:

my goal for next week is to finish the other half of the project which is the more decoration part. I also want to get my found things this weekend so my goal for next week is to come in with things that i found and can use for this project.

 

Week 4 – February 21st 2025 – Constructing Basic Shapes and Natural World Consideration and Research

Review

This week i finished my Constructing Basic Shapes assignment and i am very proud of how it turned out everything is structured and looks good. I also finished two parts of my natural world assignment which is amazing since i am now ahead and can have more time to work on my final product. It feels so nice having multiple things done and not stressing about it. I am starting my building of my structure today which i cant wait for since i am so excited to see if finished and have fun working on it along the way. I think this week went really well and i am in a good place.

Goals for next week?

my goal for next week is to give myself time with this constructing part of the assignment and giving myself time with decorating because I put so much time into other aspects of the assignment that i want the final project to live up to everything i was writing about and was hoping it would be. I hope that all my hard work shows true the assignment and it all turns out well

Finished Constructing Basic Shapes Assignment

”Found Objects – Considerations and Research” (Purpose)

A place that i really want to visit is the Maldives. I was to go to one of those all inclusive resorts and stay in a villa that’s on the water. I love the idea of the villas on the water sink your re so close to the sea life and can be in their world when ever you want. You can easily get your snorkelling gear and jump into the water and experience the beauties of the ocean. All the sea creatures and plants and just taking in the crystal clear water and the calmness that it all brings. I want to make art that makes me feel like i am on that vacation enjoying the wildlife and what the ocean has to offer. I also just love the beach and the warmth that that environment comes with. It’s really something precious and not everyone gets to experience it. I love looking at all the shells that wash up on shore and the sand dollars and fun little rocks. There is so many beauties to the ocean and the beach which i love the most. The threats to the land are that people will swim in the ocean and not be carful and cautious that living things are around them and they will start destroying and disturbing their land. People dont wear coral reef safe sunscreen when swimming which is unintentional killing and harming the reefs. Big fishing companies will drag big fishing nets off their boats that get things stuck in them that are not fish which is killing other species and the sea floor. So the big harm to it all is humans. There aren’t an that are non human because that is the ecosystem at work when things die and eat each other. I want my art to use the natural land and encompass all the wonders of the sea. In the Maldives they have whale sharks and right now they are on the endangered list so i want to make the basis of my work about whale sharks and spread awareness.

Week 3 – February 14th 2025 – Elements and Principle’s Art and Constructing Basic Shapes

How do you feel about your work?

This week I feel good about my work since I am getting a lot done in class and using my time wisely. I’m only two days of starting this assignment I have done so much in only two days and am also done my assignment. I have put a lot of effort and energy into this work and tried my best when building my 3D shapes out of different materials. I redid some of my shapes when they didn’t look to great so I hope that it all turns out good. I am excited to see the finished product.

 

Goal for next week?

My goal for next week is to finish my project early so that I can be ahead and work on the next project. I also hope to get a good grade on it and do better than my last project. I hope to get better with all my projects.

 

Week 2 – February 7th 2025 – Elements and Principles of Art

Review of the week

This week i was working on my first project of the course. I am a level 1 so i did the elements and principle skill builder. We also did 3D drawing yesterday that were fun.

How do you feel about your work?

This is what my work is looking like right now. It’s due on Wednesday so i am not finished yet but i am getting there. The first picture is actually what it looked like earlier in the week but as we started talking about the different elements and principles i was understand them a little better so i changed it and made sure all the pictures were highlighting the two principle elements the most. I watched all the videos but they honestly confused me and I wasn’t sure about the differences of the elements and principles so it was really helpful when Mr. Rossington broke down each one and talked about them. Before i was picking photos that had it in them but not the main focus so the second photo is what i have so far. But honestly that was a good thing that i restarted because now i feel more confident in my work and that i am understand it more clearly. This really helped affect my work this week and make me feel happy and that i was going in the right direction.

What goal do you have for next week?

For next week i have a goal to finish my project on time and get a good mark on it because i worked really hard on it and hopefully will see the result i want to. Another goal i have is to no be to much of a perfectionist because that can slow me down a bit.

 

Week 1 – January 30th 2025 – Introduction

what we did this week?

This week we did a scavenger hunt with the class which was fun to talk to knew people and learn new things. We also did a knife safety test since the day before that was the day Mrs Rossington taught us all about the basic tools we will be using at the start of this semester. I was very proud of myself when i finished the test since i got 100% on it! Today we got some time to sketch which was also fun since i got to sketch some ideas of things that i want to make in this class and hopefully i will be able to get to actually make them. Yesterday me and Francesca finished our name tags and put them on our boxes and i was able to make my name tags look cute and creative.

Goal for next week?

My goal for next week is to understand the next thing that we are learning and get a good grasp of the concept. I hope to get a good mark on it since i am pretty hard on myself when it comes tot he things that i create and want to always make things perfect and tot he best of my ability.
