Element Sway/Information Fluency
1) What questions did you need to research in order to create your sway?
a) Where can you find thallium?
b) What physical characteristics does it have?
c) What’s its melting + boiling point?
d) If consumed is it harmful to human health?
e) Can it be oxidized?
f) How was thallium first found?
2) What new or familiar digital tools did you try to use as you worked through this project?
I have only used the school’s online library for information a few times so it was a fairly new tool for me to adapt to. I actually loved it and was a lot easier to get the citations from it. Normally you have to put all the information into a citation machine but it’s hard to find all that information so, I liked that it was easier so that we spent our time on the actual project and not on the less important things. I also used images from sway making it easy to find the perfect image I needed and get its citations too.
3) What was the process you used to investigate the topic and how did you verify and cite the information you found?
I tried to go back to the assignment and see information that I should add but I also used the questions that I made before starting this assignment to guide me to add the information I needed. I tried to go to as many different articles within the school library of Gale to make sure I had all my information correct. Its important that I am not writing the wrong things to make sure I understand all of it and to not promote untruthful information.
4) How did the process of completing this challenge go? What could you have done better?
I liked this assignment since we got to find information on elements that are not talked about as much. you always hear about gold, hydrogen, helium, sodium etc. but you don’t hear about the other ones as much. I thought the process was good and went pretty smoothly. One nice thing was that Mr. Robinson was there for one day to help us out with the start of the project meaning we were able to ask him questions. I also liked that we were all going the same project meaning we could get help from others and think of ideas on how we want to show our information. One thing I could have done better is instead of asking Mr. Kim and our pear tutor a bunch of questions I could have read thru the instructions a few more times and given myself some time to understand everything I was asked of. I tend to just ask when I should be a little more independent and try things first.
**last thing I want to add is I added all my citations for my pictures but sometimes when I see the final product of my sway only some of them show up.**
