Week 1, September 9, 2024. Introduction
- This week was very simple because we were just getting to know everyone and learning about the criteria for this class. We had a quick lesson about knife and cutting safety which we had a quick quiz on. We personalised our names tags and we got the chance to do some little drawings in our sketchbooks.
- My biggest struggle this week was getting to know everybody and trying to learn everyone’s names because it’s only the first week.
- My biggest success this week was drawing in my sketchbook, I find it very fun and calming which is a great way to start the mornings. I am also proud of myself for remembering to buy one for Monday.
- My goal for next week is to participate more in class when we have discussions.

Week 2, September 27th 2024. Life on Land Research
I found that this week was very relaxed and I spent most of my time finishing up my colour theory and starting the research for my life on land project. I especially loved the colour theory project because using watercolour is my favourite way to paint. I loved experimenting with the wax and the salt, I found that interesting because I’ve never tried that before and it was cool to see the effect that it had when mixed with water. My biggest struggle this week was finding a photo for the life on land research project because I have so many photos to choose from with lots of meanings behind them. However, once I found my image, I was quick to get organised and start my research.
The image I would like to create in a collage:
The threats to this landscape – One major threat is deforestation because it hurts ecosystems and worsens climate change by reducing the Earth’s ability to absorb carbon dioxide. This also leads to threatening natural habitats and the loss of biodiversity because when the forests are cleared, many plant and animal species lose their homes and food sources. Additionally, the destruction of natural habitats can heighten the chances of species going extinct which further destabilises ecosystems.
The solutions to these threats – Something we could do to fix deforestation is planting trees in the areas where the trees have been cut down or where they’re in danger. We can also reduce the demand for products that contribute to deforestation, such as palm oil and timber. To protect habitats, we can establish protected areas/ forests where they can’t be touched or messed with to safeguard ecosystems from destruction. I believe that these would all be useful, but one of the most important things is raising public awareness about the importance of forests and biodiversity.

Week 3, October 11th 2024. Life on Land Progress
This week I felt that I used my time wisely and I was productive. I was able to finish the sketching and painting so next week I’ll be working on my elements that I’ll be gluing on. I might also take my project home to work on it during the weekend so that I can finish quicker and have more time to work on my artist trading card, etc.

Life on Land Completed :
Week 4, October 19th 2024. Life on Land Completed
This week I thought that I was very productive just like last week. I finished gluing on my materials and adding my finishing details with acrylic paint. Once I was done, I talked to Mr. Rossington about my project and we graded the research, my sketch and the final project together. I then began working on my lino prints by sketching out my ideas in my sketch book. I was very happy with how this week went and I’m going to be just as productive next week with my lino prints.
Week 5, October 24th 2024. Progress on Lino Print
This week I worked on my Lino print designs and I sketched out 4 different ideas before choosing one. Once I chose my favourite, I made the good copy. My strengths this week were asking questions because it helped me a lot to understand what we were doing. My weakness this week was not using my time wisely because I was stressed with quizzes from other classes that I didn’t focus on what I needed to be focused on. Next week I’m going to finish my Lino prints, test my design on different papers and start working on my artist trading cards.
PURPOSE :
Week 6, November 1st 2024. Progress on Lino Print
This week I continued to work on my lino print and I began carving my design. My strengths this week were asking questions because I was quite confused on this project because I missed the class explaining what to do. I thought that it was good that I wanted to understand this project correctly and do a good job. My stretches this week were working efficiently because I kept getting side tracked and I think that I could’ve made more progress. Next week I’m going to be completely done this project and I will begin working on my inquiry project.

Inquiry Project – PURPOSE
What would you like to investigate/make as a term-long project?
For this long term project, I would like to explore dot art. I did some research on potential art projects and when I came across dot art, I found it very mesmerising and something that I would love to recreate.
3 Inspiring photos :
What do you need to get started?
I want to do this project because it looks very tedious and I think that it would be a good use of my time and it would be easy for me to focus so that I won’t get distracted easily. With dot art, many people do small shapes such as stars or hearts but I want to try a landscape. I did some research and came across some dot art landscapes and they looked so cool and unique which inspired me to make my own.
How will you begin the project?
I will begin by finding a landscape to recreate and I would like to find one that is special and personal to me. Some challenges I might face will be the timeline because this kind of art will take a while and I need to make sure I use my time wisely. I also need to do a good job of using the right colours and the right size dots so that it resembles my image and not like a lot of random dots.
Week 8, November 22nd 2024. Progress Inquiry Project
This week I did the finishing touches on my lino prints and I started to think about ideas for my inquiry project. My strengths this week was coming up with ideas for my inquiry project and being creative. I was also productive and finished my work on my edublog. My stretches this week was staying on task because I was distracted with my other classes. Next week I will begin on my dot art and start thinking about the origami project.
Week 9, November 29th 2024. Continuing Inquiry Project
This week I found that I was very productive and creative. I started practising my dot art by experimenting with different tools such as a toothpick and skewer. I also made my own stamps with phlo clay which I sculpted at school and cooked at home. My stretches this week were rushing things because I find that a lot of the time I rush the practising/rough draft stage. I need to take my time because this step is just as important as making a good copy. Next week, I will test out my own stamps and then prepare my canvas for painting.
Sketches
December 6th 2024. Beginning Inquiry Project
This week I was productive, used my time wisely and I’m very happy with my progress. I tested out my diy stamps which didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted but it was a good experiment. I prepped my canvas for my project by painting my canvas fully white and sketching out my scenery. My stretches this week were doubting myself because once I started my dot art, I realised that this would take a long time so I need to use my time wisely in class. Next week I will continue my dot art and my goal is to finish the sky, mountains and water.
December 13th 2024. Continuing Inquiry Project
This week I was also productive, I used all my class time wisely and have made a lot of progress. I continued with the dot art by working in sections and using Mr Drysdales fine paint brushes. My strengths this week were staying focused and I believe I did a lot of work in such a short amount of time. My stretches this week were rushing some of my sections, specifically the tree because it’s one of the biggest parts of my painting, however I believe it still looks great. Next week, my goal is to do the same thing I did this week, stay consistent and stay motivated.
December 20th 2024. Inquiry Project – Last Day Before Break
This week I continued to work on my inquiry project and I made some progress. My strengths this week were taking my time and being very precise with my dots, although it took a lot of time, I believe it looks good and it was worth it. My stretches this week were staying focused because since it’s the last week, I was just looking forward to the break and I wasted some of my in class time. My goal is to take my project home with me on the break and make some more progress on it so things will be easier once I go back to school.
December 21st 2024. Inquiry Project
This week I was getting back into the routine of class so the first few days were quite challenging to stay focused after the break. I thought that I still did a great job of using my time wisely the rest of the week which is important since it’s almost the end of the semester. My goal next week is to finish my trading cards because I believe I will be able to finish my inquiry project if I take it home during the weekend.
