Chemistry 11 – Midterm Reflection

I have had strengths and weaknesses throughout the course of chemistry 11 so far. during our first unit on the atomic theory, a strength I had was being able to consistently write the proper electron configurations for the elements. A weakness I had from this unit was figuring out which elements have the higher first ionization energy. During our second unit with bonding, a strength I had was being able to draw the correct VSEPR diagrams for molecules. Something I struggled with was figuring out if the bond between atoms was polar or non polar, and depending on how the VSEPR shape could mean the atoms surrounding the central atom could cancel out. From our unit on the mole (so far) I am good at being able to write the steps out properly and solve an equation with unitary rates. something I would like to improve at is being able to write answers with the correct amount of sig figs. I will try to get better at my weaknesses by practicing them more often and asking questions if I need help.

Here are the rubrics of where I evaluated myself

Core Competencies Self-Assessment – PROCESS

Here is my English self reflection, in this self reflection I explain my strengths, what I can improve at in the future and how to do so.

My Strengths

Something I am good at is using the PEEL method when writing paragraphs to communicate my ideas in an organized and well flowing way. I can find sufficient evidence to further prove what I am trying to say and I have learned how to properly integrate quotes. At the beginning of the year I had a lot of dropped quotes, but I know now how to incorporate them smoothly. I thoroughly understand the components of the PEEL method and can successfully use them to write paragraphs.

Examples Of My Strengths

I know this because I can see the difference between the paragraphs I wrote at the beginning of the semester and the paragraphs I write now. At the beginning of the semester my paragraphs did not flow as well as they do now and as I mentioned previously, I did not integrate quotes properly.

My Goals

Something I can get better at is not being repetitive in my paragraphs, and expanding on my points more. That way I can have a better quality of content in my paragraphs, making them stronger overall.

My Plan

To achieve this goal, I will read over my paragraphs an extra time to check if I am being repetitive, and if so, expand my thinking more to be more in depth with my information. This way it will become a habit and the quality of my writing will continue to get better.
